Lennon "Acoustic"

Postby Xenu » Sun Oct 31, 2004 3:57 am

This finally surfaced on firesharing networks today. I downloaded a rip of it.

Offhand, it isn't really a bad comp. The song selection is somewhat "obvious"--we don't get any Mind Games demos, we get one WaB demo, and we get *several* STinNYC demos--but it generally flows well. The sound quality shifts drastically on some tracks, though, which has made listening to the album straight through somewhat odd. And this may be merely the rip I downloaded, but the entire thing has an odd, "phasey" quality to it. This might be indicative of some processing/noise reduction, or might just be a poor-quality encode.

Anybody else grab it? It's up on suprnova.org right now (in several flavours, actually).

My favorite track thus far is probably "Look At Me," which may have surfaced previously on bootleg, but which sounds *very* good here.

David, which tracks have been previously released? And are all the previously-released tracks from Anthology?

I don't have Anthology around to check against, so I'll leave this up to others.

Are these acoustic home demos, or acoustic alternate takes from the studio (or both)? On the Lennon Anthology, they went REALLY heavy with the noise reduction on the stuff that came from home demos, so if this is mostly home demos then that probably is what you are hearing.

A mixture of the two, I think. "Well Well Well" is clearly a home demo (I think one I"m familiar with from bootlegs), whereas things like "Love" sound like studio demos. "Love" sounds *really, really bad*. Really bad. I hope to god that's the MP3 encoding at work (or perhaps a dodgy source).

Strange sounding disc at times, "Phasey" is a good way to describe it...The "Look At Me" is from the ending credits on the Imagine DVD. "Real Love" sounds like the version from the Imagine soundtrack. "Watching the Wheels" is the same as the anthology version.

So that in fact is the way the CD sounds, and not the way the encodes sound? Disappointing.

It'd be mroe disappointing if it were something I was waiting for, truthfully. As is, I wasn't planning on buying it anyway. While the Anthology set was pleasantly surprising, the LLT really hit the spot for unreleased Lennon.
