ABCNEWS HOLDS TERROR WARNING TAPE

**Exclusive**

In the last week before the election, ABCNEWS is holding a videotaped message from a purported al Qaeda terrorist warning of a new attack on America, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

The terrorist claims on tape the next attack will dwarf 9/11. "The streets will run with blood," and "America will mourn in silence" because they will be unable to count the number of the dead. Further claims: America has brought this on itself for electing George Bush who has made war on Islam by destroying the Taliban and making war on Al Qaeda.

ABCNEWS strongly denies holding the tape back from broadcast over political concerns during the last days of the election.

The CIA is analyzing the tape, a top federal source tells the DRUDGE REPORT.

ABCNEWS obtained the tape from a source in Waziristan, Pakistan over the weekend, sources tells DRUDGE.

"We have been working 24 hours a day trying to authenticate [the tape]," a senior ABCNEWS source said Wednesday morning.

The terrorist's face is concealed by a head dress, and he speaks in an American accent, making it difficult to identify the individual.

US intelligence officials believe the man on tape may be Adam Gadhan - aka Adam Pearlman, a California native who was highlighted by the FBI in May as an individual most likely to be involved in or have knowledge of the next al Qaeda attacks.

According to the FBI, Gadahn, 25, attended al-Qaida training camps and served as an al-Qaida translator.

The disturbing tape runs an hour -- the man simply identifies himself as 'Assam the American.'

Good ol' Drudge. I wonder if he'll manufacture another sex scandal before next week.

Even if true, this is obviously just trying to deflect attention from the weapons looting.

I'm laying even odds we go to code orange by the weekend. One last good scare before we hit the booths.

I have to agree, that this is probably a deflection from the weapons smear.

Ever hear of the "October Surprise?" This might qualify.

Just think...if Newsweek had sucked it up in early '98 and run the Lewinsky story (they sat on it and Drudge scooped them), we'd never have heard of Drudge. If only.

The "weapons smear"? Ho ho! Is that what they're calling it over there in Wingnut Land? When the weapons were safely under IAEA control until Bush kicked them out? Does he take responsibility for *anything*?

That's funny. Weapons smear.

Next thing you know, they'll be calling the 1100 war dead a "casualty smear." And the huge deficit a "fiscal smear." And the failure to find anything to justify the war an "intelligence smear."

Actually, I kind of like that last one.

A couple more things about ABC "sitting" on this alleged "terror tape"...

- Since when does al Qaeda give their stuff to ABC? I thought al Jazeera was the first stop for this sort of thing.

- Didn't the administration request that the networks not air stuff of this nature for fear of sending coded signals?

- Didn't the right rip CBS a new one about airing things before they were thoroughly checked out?

Heck, maybe even code red. Can't vote when you're stuck in your duct-taped safe room.

Wingnut land? I'm crushed.

Seriously, the timing of this (smear) story really makes me wonder Ryan.

If it had come from the Kerry campaign or the news media, I'd be inclined to agree. But my understanding is that the red flag was raised by the Iraqi government. Are you saying that Bush's own handpicked government is trying to prevent his re-election? What does that say about his level of success in Iraq?

Wingnut land? I'm crushed.

Oops, sorry. Got carried away. "Our good friends on the right."

CIA can't authenticate alleged al Qaeda tape

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- After a technical analysis, the CIA cannot determine whether a videotape obtained by ABC News in Pakistan featuring a man claiming to be affiliated with al Qaeda is authentic, a U.S. intelligence official said Thursday.

"We have been unable to verify the tape's authenticity," the official said.

Portions of the 75-minute tape were aired Thursday evening by ABC News, which said it obtained the tape from a source known to have Taliban and al Qaeda contacts in the tribal regions of Pakistan.

ABC said it paid the source $500 in transportation fees.

A U.S. official said there were "real questions about its authenticity."

By that, the official said, he meant that it was not clear whether the tape was prepared by someone affiliated with al Qaeda and taking orders from its leaders, or whether it was a hoax.

With the presidential election just days away, officials are wary of a possible trick by an impostor.

"Without being able to authenticate it, it's just some guy talking on a tape," the U.S. intelligence official said.

On the tape, a man calling himself "Azzam the American" threatens terror attacks "at any moment," delivering the message in English. His face is covered with a headdress and he holds a rifle.

"People of America: I remind you of the weighty words of our leaders, Sheikh Osama bin Laden and Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, that what took place on September 11th was but the opening salvo of the global war on America," he says. "And that, Allah willing, the magnitude and ferocity of what is coming your way will make you forget all about September 11th."

A U.S. government official said the tape did not mention any means, mode or place of an attack.

Sources said copies of the tape were given to President Bush, Attorney General John Ashcroft, FBI Director Robert Mueller, former CIA Director George Tenet and nine other officials mentioned by name on the tape.

A U.S. intelligence official said the voice on the tape "does not match anyone we know of" who has been identified as being affiliated with al Qaeda.

The official said the tape was made in recent months, since it referred to the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, the same sex-marriage controversy in Massachusetts, and the report of the 9/11 commission.

The tape included a graphic indicating it was produced by the "Sahab Production Committee," which is the same as that seen on a number of authenticated al Qaeda tapes.

CNN's David Ensor, Kelli Arena, Jeanne Meserve and Jonathan Wald contributed to this report.
"I know because it is impossible for a tape to hold the compression levels of these treble boosted MFSL's like Something/Anything. The metal particulate on the tape would shatter and all you'd hear is distortion if even that." - VD

There is nothing suspicious about the timing here. The Iraqi provisional government wrote a letter to the IAEA on October 10, 2004 express their concern about the missing weapons in al Qaqaa. In other words the government we are proping up in Iraq generated the story...
