Ampex Records pre-recorded tapes?

Postby lukpac » Thu Jul 01, 2004 3:51 pm

Does anyone know what formats Ampex released albums on when they had their own label? I've got an LP that says something along the lines of "Also available on Ampex stereo tapes", but it doesn't make mention of formats. The album was released in 1971.

It would be great if there were an open reel release of it...

According o this site , Ampex took over r-t-r manufacture of the Beatles records in 1969 --
and continued for several years thereafter. So they were releasing tapes at least that early.

Yeah, that's kind of what got me thinking about it. And I wouldn't give a damn what the tape box looked like...
