Boondocks AWOL Bush cartoon

Saw this in the Herald-Leader, stole the image from BartCop.com:

According to Bart, many papers refused to run it. Damn liberal media...

I was kinda surprised the Herald-Leader ran it, considering they protected us from the Doonesbury masturbation strip the week before.

I wonder how many people are buying the Bush dolls just to dress them up in something similar to that...

PS - Your original comment is still the best I've seen -- "I bought the Bush Texas Air National Guard action figure, but the box was empty."

Very funny strip. But in terms of the content, there's nothing there that wasn't known before the election. Except maybe for the "Beer run!" thing. Oil business nonsense, the Rangers [interesting that recently the hoax re: Texas school districts successfully combating the drop out problem has been revealed] . . . Bush was a known commodity before the first votes were cast. Obviously nobody seemed to care.

I think there are two factors at play:

1) Although things may have been "known," I would question how many people actually know/knew. IIRC, the main Bush AWOL story was done by the Boston Globe. I don't remember a lot of other papers even covering it.

2) What you're chalking up to apathy on behalf of the voters, I would chalk up to giving the guy a pass due to "youthful indiscretion." Truly, I think most of what the guy did before he was 40 (sobered up, found God) is excused or ignored, and he is seen as something of a prodigal son.

I wonder if I came up with that one on my own, or subconsciously stole it from someone else.

Doesn't matter, it's funny as hell.

PS - Speaking of youthful indiscretions, how about the stories of how young Dubya would shove firecrackers down frogs' throats, throw them up in the air and watch them explode? Ah, good times.

The original New York Times article is on their site, but you gotta pay to get to it.
