Anyone want 30,000 issues of ICE Magazine?

Postby lukpac » Sun Mar 12, 2006 10:29 pm

No bids yet!

ICE Magazine 30,000 back issues 1990-2005

A most unusual offering: approximately 30,000 back issues of ICE Magazine, neatly housed in approximately 200 boxes. Serious music collectors know that ICE has been covering new releases and reissues on CD (and now the Internet) since 1987. England’s New Musical Express has called ICE “probably the best source for CD news in the world,” and Billboard magazine once reported, “When ICE arrives at Billboard’s offices every month, there’s always a fight to see who reads it first, and there are few higher recommendations than that.” (See www.icemagazine.com to get a taste, if you’re unfamiliar.) Over the years, ICE has conducted exclusive interviews with the producers, record-company executives, managers, sound engineers and other personnel overseeing the reissues of artists such as The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. We’ve also conducted exclusive interviews for our cover stories with a huge swath of artists themselves, as diverse as Lucinda Williams, DMX, The Flaming Lips, John Mayer, Norah Jones, John Fogerty, The Gang of Four, Tori Amos, Foo Fighters, Alanis Morissette, Brian Wilson, Diana Krall, David Bowie, Dave Matthews, Steely Dan, Linkin Park, Sarah McLachlan, Lou Reed, Moby, Weezer, Patti Smith, Willie Nelson and No Doubt. This lot consists of back issues for, very approximately, ICE issue #’s 34 all the way up through the present (issue #227 or so). The amount of each issue varies wildly, but we figure the grand total to be around 30,000. This offering is not about the money, it’s about finding a good home for all of these issues. So even if the whole load sells for just one dollar, it’ll be our loss and your gain. We obviously don’t want to take the time to sell them off individually - that can be your fun. If you make 10 grand off them, fine; we just don’t want to haul them to recycle. Very important point: The winner MUST BE ABLE TO PICK THEM UP IN SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA (a part of Los Angeles) WITHIN THREE DAYS OF THE AUCTION’S CLOSE. Obviously, there’s no way we’re shipping these anywhere. You’ll need a truck or van to haul the 200 boxes away, but man, there’s a lot of good reading and reporting in there. (There may be some issues from the late 1980’s, too, but to be safe, we’re saying 1990-onwards. And there’s no way we can break down how many of each issue.) And yes, I’m the founder, owner, publisher and editor of ICE Magazine, Pete Howard. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions you might have through the listing, or at MrPoster@aol.com.

Is it a rumor at this point? I thought it was a done deal that ICE was done.

Done? That's a shame. Their most recent issue had a call for a new investor to 'take ICE to a new level'. That gave me pause...

now, looking at the ICE chat room, I see this (shudder)

"We will need to pick a site to head to if that happens to re-group at the very least. Luke's site is probably the best since its smaller.
We would all get lost in the larger Hoffman site (even though I do post over their alot too)."

I haven't heard anything official yet, but it seems more likely than not that they're finished.

It is a shame. I never received my March issue and I had the issues sent first class. Not a good sign

I will miss it.

I got the March issue last week. It's available as a PDF download from the icemagazine.com site.

Could be unrelated to anything, but the web site is dead at the moment.

Both the main site and the chat room just worked for me.

The forum is still active but for how long??

I guess I might get a few Billboard issues as compensation for my 18 issues I had coming.
