Well, Luke, people DON'T have to "make sense", about their opinions about things. Sometimes, it's something that just, IS, and we have to accept that, as inadequate an explanation, as it may seem, to you.
That's an interesting comment, considering you've just spent the better part of two pages trying to deconstruct Harrison Ford's statement of opinion and whether it was "out of line." Maybe his opinion just IS, and we have to accept that.
That aside, though, I don't see the big deal. Why hasn't he been shouting his anti-administration (not "anti-US") views from the rooftops? I see a couple possible reasons.
1) No one's asked since the time frame of Luke's article. I haven't been slavishly following the promotional interviews for
Hollywood Homicide, so I can't speak definitively on this one, but in order for your thesis to make sense, there'd have to be an exchange similar to the following lurking around somewhere:
PLUGAWAY: Wow, Mr. Ford, that new odd-couple-buddy-LA-cop-car-chase movie of yours sure sounds like a breath of fresh air. Can't wait to see it. By the way, what's your take on this whole icky Iraq thing?
FORD: I have an opinion on that, but I don't think you'd like it. So I'm gonna be an evasive coward and duck that question.
PLUGAWAY: Fair enough! That's
Hollywood Homicide, coming soon to a megaplex near you!
I don't feel like trawling the Net for that exchange, but if you can dig it up, let me know.
2) If the topic didn't come up beyond the issue covered in Luke's article, he didn't particularly feel like being Dixie Chicked. Why bring that on yourself?
It's interesting to me that when a celebrity makes a political statement (especially a lefty one), people get all outraged because "we don't want to hear their opinions." (A celebrity pushing the administration line or mealy-mouthed "support the troops" blather, on the other hand, seems to be OK.) However, if they *don't* speak their minds loudly and repeatedly until asked directly, then they're cowards.
Sorry, Mike, but it sounds to me like you're trying
real hard to find something to be ticked off about in this case, when there's just not a whole lot there. I certainly can't tell you not to be ticked off about it, since you obviously are, but I can't find a reason to join you.
