The Buffalo Springfield box would be a great example of that.

I would like to know the answers to these questions too. It's a really fine album, and it boggles my mind that "Don't Be Denied" in particular is still officially unavailable (why was this song left off Decade??).

Just like why is "Burned" on there, but not "Out Of My Mind"? I always thought "Out Of My Mind" was the stronger song...

I have to agree. (And when I do want to hear "Burned," I prefer Wilco's cover version from the I Shot Andy Warhol soundtrack.)

BTW, weren't one or two performances on Time Fades Away drawn from the same show as the Harvest take of "The Needle and the Damage Done"? I seem to recall reading that in Paul Williams' Neil book, though I could be wrong ...

EDIT: To answer my own question, I checked out the discography at Hyperrust (http://hyperrust.org/OLD-Discography/Album.html), which indeed states:

"Love In Mind" comes from the same concert as "The Needle And The Damage Done" on Harvest.

Four CD's and he couldn't even add the stereo mix of Buffalo Springfield, the mono mix of Buffalo Springfield Again or the remaining tracks from Last Time Around. Not to mention the absence of the extended version of "Bluebird." Talk about a wasted opportunity...

Or the single mixes of "Bluebird", "Mr. Soul", "Merry-Go-Round" and "Uno Mundo". Or anything live. Or other demos and alternate takes ("Sell Out", demo to "Clancy", etc).

I will say I've come to enjoy the box for what it is - a lot - but there's also a lot not included. That 4th disc is really, really stupid.

Neil Young is kind of a nimrod, really.

His pronouncments on audio are as ludicrous as any Stereophile-readin' tweako's. LIke the guy has *any* hearing above 14k at this point, for one thing.

He needs to have his catalog taken away from him and handled by someone who knows audio and isn't an aging drug-addled hippie. Which disqualifies CERTAIN PEOPLE here. Oh, and they shouldn't be Canadian either.

I have a CDR of the scrapped HDCD Time Fades Away. If anyone wants a copy send me a PM.

I think the BS box set sounds pretty good, actually, excessive mononess excluded. I think he's silly about insisting on HDCD, but I think from the sound department they did a pretty good job.

I remember reading an interview where Neil stated he hates the album or something like that. :?

I have no idea why they scrapped it, and why it wasn't reinstated with the four titles (of the 'Missing Six') that WERE finally released in 2003.

I've got a CD-R of it, though. Sounds fine to me, better than listening to any vinyl-through-home-computer-to-CD-R copy.
