The Fleetwood Mac Expanded and Remastered Series reissues (Tusk, Rumours, and Fleetwood Mac) have bumped into October. The dates will be posted in a few days or so. Additionally, the James Taylor reissues get moved all the way to 2004. The REM titles get a bump, some into October and some into November. We'll give more details as they come around, which should be shortly.

Now, since you hung with me, read Grey's column and so on and so forth, I have some good additions to the schedules for you. The following is a list of DVD-Audio titles that are being mentioned for October/November. They are:

T.Rex - Electric Warrior
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells 2003
Phil Collins - Face Value
Phil Collins - No Jacket Required
Phil Collins - But Seriously

And finally, I won't believe it until I see it, but according to the latest word I've heard - on September 23, WEA will be releasing Neil Young's American Stars N Bars, Hawks and Doves, On The Beach, and Re-Ac-Tor on DVD-AUDIO.

Interesting update from the daily news flash portion of ICE online...

Lou Reed — currently touring in support of his recent releases NYC Man: The Collection (RCA/BMG Heritage) and The Raven (Reprise) — recently went back into the studio to produce a new verse for his most familiar tune, "Walk on the Wild Side." The new words:

"George went to join the army

Earn some more money, keep the family outta harm’s way

Now he’s in the desert looking out for gas

Never dreamed of kicking no Iraqi asses

Says hey take a walk on the wild side

Said hey babe this here is the wild side

And the world says…"

The alternate version also features remix production work by Grammy-winning hip-hop producer 7 Aurelius (2Pac, Jennifer Lopez). It will accompany select editions of NYC Man in the form of a bonus disc that comes with copies sold at Coalition of Independent Music Stores affiliates.

From Music Tap...

And it's official now. A&M Records is putting out the Peter Frampton classic, Frampton Comes Alive as a 2CD SACD Hybrid. Now that oughta count for something. Although everyone knew it was coming, you can actually pencil in a date on the calendar now. The date? That's on August 26.

It's finally coming...The new Strokes album is penciled in for an October 21 release date. That's pretty good news for us Strokes fans.

And finally, Arista Records is clearing some shelf space for a new Tears For Fears title expected on October 14.

Rhino has a pretty impressive coupla albums headed your way featuring The Doors. One of them is a 2CD collection, The Absolute Best of The Doors, while the other set, The Complete Studio Recordings, is a humongous 7CD box that brings together all six of the band's originals into one set with a bonus disc of rarities. The set is remastered with each disc being sleeved in cardboard jackets that replicate the original LP. This 7CD box is a repackaging of the original 7CD brick.

The 2CD set, The Absolute Best of The Doors, features remastered songs, 34 in all, from their collection. This set contains a previously unissued "Celebration of the Lizard". Both sets release on August 12.

DVD-Audio for August 12 are Frank Sinatra's Sinatra at the Sands. The info states the disc features 2 Advanced Resolution versions, 5.1 Surround 96k/24b and a Stereo 192k/24b, and a Dolby Digital for DVD Players. I'm a little leery of the 192k/24b listing as some of the earlier titles quote this but it never seems to materialize. We'll find out soon enough, I guess.

Following along is Chicago V with Saturday in the Park and my favourite, Dialogue I & II. This DVD-A features a bonus with a live rendition of Dialogue recorded from 1972 when Chicago was growing in strength. The Advanced Resolution for this set is 96k/24b for the 5.1 Surround and 96k/24b for the Stereo version including the standard Dolby Digital Surround track.

For just a little while, the Stooges will be back with four new songs on Iggy Pop's new album, Skull Ring, due Sept 30. The Stooges are Ron and Scott Asheton plus Pop. The four songs are Little Electric Chair, Skull Rings, Loser and Dead Rock Star. But for newer fans, Pop's collaboration with sexy singer, Peaches, on Motor Inn, will be highly anticipated.

Tangerine Dream are here for the hangover. Tangerine Dream: Bootleg Box Volume One has 10 CDs covering 14 concerts from 1974 to 1976. With the exception of a 1976 show in Bilboa, all the shows are in the UK. Due Aug 11.

Soft Works is the new Soft Machine that reunited last year and began recording in London. Their new album, Abracadabra, will arrive July 29. Included are Hugh Hopper's "First Trane," "Elsewhere" and "Abracadabra"; Elton Dean contributes "Seven Formerly," "Baker's Treat" and "Willie's Knees"; and Phil Miller's "K Licks" a.k.a. "Calyx" and Allan Holdsworth's "Madam Vintage".

The next four Yes reissues are now scheduled to be released Aug 26. They are 1972's Close To The Edge, 1974's double-LP Tales From Topographic Oceans, Relayer and 1977's Going For The One.

Here are the bonus tracks for each album. Close To The Edge will include an alternate version of And You And I; the single version of Yes' interpretation of Simon & Garfunkel's America; the single version of the Total Mass Retain section of Close To The Edge; and Siberia, a studio run-through of Siberian Khatru.

Going For The One features seven bonus tracks, including the instrumental Montreux's Theme, Vevey (Revisited), Amazing Grace, rehearsals of Going For The One, Parallels and Turn Of The Century; and an early version of Awaken known as Eastern Numbers.

Dion has rerecorded some of his old hits in a new series from the Collectables label. New Masters brings veteran acts back into the studios to rerecord their hits. The 18-track CD features an acoustic version of Dion's Abraham, Martin and John, a of Blue Suede Shoes and more.

Spiritualized are ready with a new album, Amazing Grace, which will arrive first as a series of limited edition vinyl EPs, Aug 8. The CD will be available Sept 8.

If you like Big Star [Chris Bell, Jody Stephens], you will want to own Rock City’s self-titled album recorded in 1969-1970 but never released until now on the Lucky Seven label through Rounder. Rock City was the group that immediately preceded Big Star. Two of the members of Rock City, Christopher Bell and Jody Stephens, were also members of Big Star. Three of the songs on this CD were also on Big Star's first album, #1 Record, in later versions.

Hey kids, back when rock-and-roll was actually cool, there was this really loud band called The Who and a great documentary about them called The Kids Are Alright. Pioneer has been working in collaboration with the band for a couple of years to release a blow-the-doors out DVD, which is now slated for Sept. 30. The Deluxe Edition will arrive on one disc, featuring the 109-min. "director's cut" with a remastered picture and both DTS and DD audio options — director Jeff Stein (who made the doc when he was just 19) will contribute a look-back track, and on-screen notes and a 32-page booklet will also be on hand. But if you've bought a cheaper DVD in the past and wished you'd forked out the money for a better one, don't get fooled again — the two-disc Special Edition is a bargain, with all of the stuff on the DE as well as nearly 100 minutes of multi-angle footage, a 40-minute "making of the DVD" doc, audio and video comparisons, an isolated track featuring John Entwistle's bass playing, an interactive tour of London, and trivia games (watch for an Easter egg from Ringo Starr). All the odds and sods can be had on Sept. 30.

Keep in mind the "100 minutes of multi-angle footage" is actually only about 10 or 15 minutes long with several different angles to choose from.

Luke,

Thanks for bringing the hype down to reality !

It looks impressive for a music film, and on par, with the "Monterey Pop" release, in terms of it being a "classic", must have release.

Alot more care is being put into this, than their music releases...real
"bang for the buck" !

From musictap.com...

Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells 2003 arrives on shelves as a DVD-Audio as well as Rhino's Expanded and Remastered gifting of Television and their spectacular Marquee Moon and Adventure. Oh yeah, we're just salivating at the titles here.

Country fans get 2 Travis Tritt DVDs, A Celebration: A Musical Tribute to the Spirit of The Disabled Veteran and Greatest Hits From The Beginning. There is also a Randy Travis DVD scheduled for the same date, Forever and Ever.

On October 7, The Eagles have a TBA title slated. The package is expected to be a 2CD set. A special edition with a bonus DVD is scheduled for the same day as well. This date is also the expected date for the DVD-Audio of Led Zeppelin's How The West Was Won.

For Fleetwood Mac fans, there is a scheduled DVD called Tango In the Night for October 14. That oughta tide Ledge fans over until the expected release of their anticipated Rhino titles. An Expanded and Remastered Fleetwood Mac; a 2CD Deluxe Edition of Rumours; and a 2CD Deluxe Edition of Tusk is expected October 28. As a 'whisper', Lindsay Buckingham has something in the works.

We mentioned yesterday that R.E.M. was getting a lot of attention as well as a lot of discs being reworked and re-released. We also mentioned an IRS 'best of'. Well, now Warner will also issue a 'best of' for R.E.M. that is penciled in for October 28 in 3 flavours. The formats are a 2CD issue, a DVD-Audio version and a DVD. The title will be R.E.M. Greatest Hits.

The bummer news is that the DVD for The Ramones that we mentioned quite some months back is now cancelled. You'll remember the title being Ramones Around The World. Sorry 'bout that one folks.

The upcoming Mo-Fi release of John Lennon's Imagine has been bumped to August. Additionally, DTS Entertainment's Emma Shapplin which is TBA will be slated for September.
