...why?
It certainly isn't because the music won't fit. As I understand it, SACDs can hold far more audio than CDs, even considering the extra space DSD takes up. Look at My Generation...that's +80 minutes. And any given album that has a stereo and 5.1 mix takes up a heck of a lot more than 80 minutes of space.
Is this just a marketing thing? Should I run out and buy the old one WHILE I STILL CAN, CAPTAIN?

Well, I don't know the specifics, but I see three strikes against a single disc issue:
1) long run time
2) hybrid (only one layer available for DSD)
3) both stereo and 5.1 mixes
Sure, My Generation is over 80 minutes, but it isn't a hybrid, nor does it have a 5.1 mix. Dark Side is a hybrid 5.1 disc, but it only comes in around 45 minutes.
What I've seen on SACD run times is pretty vague.

Well, apparently the price isn't changing, so it doesn't sound like a screw job. If it means I can get Big Bucks for my old stereo SACD from Mighty Xenu, all the better.
The longest hybrid 5.1 disc I've got is (gasp) Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Rage Hard (The Sonic Collection), which is around 70 minutes. (Relax in 5.1 is the perfect soundtrack for disciplining your houseboy when he's been naughty.)

BTW, was Blonde on Blonde (2-ch SACD) out of print for a while, or just hard to find? There was a period for a while where I never saw it, and then mid-last year it suddenly burst back into existence again.
I still find it odd thinking how long SACD's been out, compared to how long I've actually seen it come near entering the mainstream...heck, someone posted on sh.tv that they had 400+ SACDs. Not counting the Stones discs, I have...what, 9?

PS: Something I've always found odd: the Japanese haven't embraced SACD at all like I expected them to. Given their love of endlessly reissuing/repacking stuff--combined with their obvious technophilic tendencies--I'm surprised that I haven't yet been afforded the opportunity to buy, say, "Psychedelic Sounds in Japan" in 5.1.

Much too much information. This kind of advise is best conveyed via PM, as I'm sure any of the dozens of FLO administrators would tell you.

Gosh, I'm sorry, FLO administrators! Send me a loyalty oath to sign, and I'll shape up and fly right!

So far as I know it was never officially out of print. I think Sony and/or the retailers got very lax about refreshing inventories of "older" SACDs (especially the stereo-only ones) the first half of last year. Stuff like Stardust and Innocent Man seemed scarce as well.

True, though you can get Wham!'s Make It Big on SACD in Japan. That's got to count for something. Positive or negative, I don't know, but something.
