Audiofidelity muckups

(no, this isn't a snakepit thread)

Reading the above, I have to say: I'm very disappointed with Audiofidelity if this is in fact true. That sort of error--especially the "boxes" for unrecognized characters--is inexcusable, especially in a "deluxe" edition of something.

Yeah, something is definatly amiss at AF. I can live with the occasional typo but boxes for unrecognized characters??? WTF? Why go through the trouble of tracking down the masters and completely botch the artwork? I can imagine the record label people mulling over whether or not to let AF license....let's say Odessey and Oracle or The Faces Long Player and talking a one look at the AF artwork and deciding to pass.

My favorite is the part where the printing on the back of the slipcase is UPSIDE DOWN, and someone says that Marshall wanted it that way to "differentiate" it from the DCC packaging. Hmmm. They slavishly replicate every detail of the old DCC slipcase, but want it to look "different" so they put the back on upside down?

Uh huh.

DCC generally did a pretty good job with the packaging, but they still screwed up more often that they should for $30 a pop. "Highway 61" spelled Al Kooper's name wrong, and the booklet in my copy of "Hotel California" is poorly reproduced and thoroughly illegible.

I think the DCC of A Night at the Opera has a great package. I loved the raised logo on the front of the booklet and it has heavy stock paper.

I'm shocked at the apparent carelessness on the Faces CD packaging. I can't wait to see (but not buy) that one in a store, if it makes it to a store near me.

That thread is amusing. The audiophiles are getting in quite the tizzy.

Nuts... I'm an idiot-proof designer that can't get arrested, and some hack is sitting in a nice visible place, getting paid to do crappy work?

What a world...

AF, I'm available... ditch the loser hack.

Mastering engineer Steve Hoffman -- the other loser hack involved with the shoddy projects -- has yet to weigh in on the thread.

Former Gorf poweragemk, after being roasted for daring to point out these embarrassing screw-ups:

You'd think I'd have taken a piss on the Alamo. This is PRODUCT, not a national treasure.

Someone needs to invite him to join us.

Nah, Michael seems like a good guy. I had a good Gorfly chat with him once after another Gorf deleted a ranting post I made about public school teachers being maligned by a few neo-cons on the site.

And, let's face it, he had the good sense to leave his Gorfly duties before his lips were permanently glued to SH's ass.

Pretty tacky to have all of the gorts jumping in on AF's side there, too. They probably didn't do it at the Tonmeister's command, though. Just the kind of 'supportive' types who naturally avoid 'whining' about these kinds of 'minor' concerns. All of the gorts who might once have agreed with Power-what-the-fuck-ever-age (or at least encouraged the discussion) are long gonzo...want to bet the remainder don't miss him right at the moment?

If I'm Tonmeister, though, I'm pretty effing pissed at Marshall for screwing the pooch on the packaging. Must be frustrating to go from VP of everything (including QC) at DCC to mastering contractor without portfolio for a wide array of two-person staff 'labels.'

Disc sounds absolutely fantastic, though, I have to say (for those of you not totally dead set against Tonmeister's mastering style). MUCH better than the two CD's and one LP I've owned/currently own. No BS on that score. Hope the series continues, because I actually am excited about the Montrose, and probably will end up being sucked in to the Deep Purple (particularly if Fireball is released as was hinted at).

In my last exchange of posts with him, my opinion of him became firmly negative. Perhaps he has changed since then, or was just having a bad day.

His "pissing on the Alamo" line was hilarious. But he forgot to add "while wearing a dress."

Crappy typesetting ahoy!

And here's the back of the slipcase, which is printed upside down to "differentiate" it from the DCC art:

It sounds really good to me, though.
