Got a funny story to post? Just want to talk? This would be a good place for that.

Rough day for the U.S. Olympic athletes in Athens

So the "Dream Team" lost against Argentina, meaning the best they can hope for is a bronze. This is the first time they won't win gold after the NBA allowed their stars to play at the Olympics. Okay, so the team only had a few NBA all-stars, so it wasn't in the same league as past "Dream Teams," but still, considering how dominant the U.S. has been with college players in the past, you'd think they'd have played better with a few ringers. But, not that big a surprise after two earlier losses.

Then, the men's volleyball team lost to Brazil. Well, Brazil was #1 in the world, the U.S. team has already met if not exceeded expectations, especially after that amazing comeback that I still cannot believe, so not that bad right?

Then, the U.S. has been shutout of any diving medals. Wilkenson was the best hope we had, and after she didn't medal, it was unlikely anyone else would, so maybe it's not that big of a surprise. Still, the first time the U.S. has been shut out of diving medals in a loooong time...

Then, Marion Jones makes only fifth place in the long jump, meaning no U.S. players medaled. Getting kind of bad.

Finally, the women's team, after the disappointing bronze finish in Sydney due to hand-off problems involving Marion Jones, comes into the 4x100 expecting a world record, blowing everyone away in every preliminary race. They've GOT to get a medal...but they BOTCHED the hand-off between Jones and Williams. Maybe Williams left too early (she's very young and inexperienced, she even made a small rookie mistake in the 100, but still won the silver there). Maybe Jones could've done more. By the time it was over, Jones had overran her boundaries, meaning instant disqualification.

To top it off, a bunch of Greeks protested the U.S. involvement in Iraq in response to Colin Powell's visit, a protest that supposedly went peacefully, but I've heard a few reports of tear gas being used.

Well, things have got to pick up tomorrow.
