Bomb Explodes At eBay PayPal Headquarters In SJ

(CBS 5 / BCN) SAN JOSE An explosive device left at the eBay-owned PayPal headquarters in San Jose exploded Tuesday night, shattering a plate-glass window on the four-story building.

Some 26 employees were working inside the building at the time of the explosion. They reportedly called 911 after hearing the blast.

"Whatever caused this was pretty strong,' said San Jose Fire Department Capt. Jose Guerrero. "It's tough to break one of these windows."

The bomb was placed outside an exit at the PayPal building that leads to the company's conference center.

The fire department responded to the building at 2211 North 1st St. at 7:31 pm after being contacted by the building's private alarm company that some windows were broken and several explosions may have occurred inside, according to Guerrero.

Authorities confirmed only one explosion Tuesday night and said damage was limited to a shattered window and its frame, Guerrero said.

Firefighters ordered the evacuation of the building and members of the bomb squad and the hazardous materials team investigated the incident, according to Guerrero.

There was no immediate word on the contents of the device, but officials told CBS 5 Tuesday that the debris left behind was not radiological.

I think this is very serious. Paypal is being warned, and that warning is don't f'k with my money or you are messin' with your own life.

Paypal has a history of locking up people's money just because they can. Then they start demanding all kinds of paperwork to prove you own the merch you collected they cash for. They have been asking for bank account numbers and the pin #'s to go with it. They want to be able to take back money in the event that they accepted a bad credit card or whatever. Paypal wants to make money off you, but refuses to take any of the risk involved in the transaction.

I've been reading alot about it because I sell a lot of vinyl on ebay. And the risk involved I need to know about. If the item is pricey, and the feedback low on the buyer, and address is Nigeria, I need to not accept that payment. Often paypal grays out the accept or deny button so the cash is already accepted, and you don't get the choice. And you have put in your preferences that you wish to always have a choice when buyer has an "unconfirmed address". They do a lot of shadey things I have noticed. Many people are very pissed off. I have had a few problems too. And now I am very careful, and prefer to get a money order. But others have had $10,000 frozen, and no phone number to speak with anyone about it. They just tell the caller we'll get back to you. It's gotten really bad, with folks not having their rent and food money.

Anyway, it has come to this now, a bomb. I can imagine this was just a warning. You don't go through all the trouble to bomb paypal and not be dead f'in serious.

Can you imagine the FBI asking Meg Whitman, are there any customer's you know of who may be upset at ebay or paypal in recent months?

Well, it could just be because they're a high-profile target.

Thankfully, I've never been on the receiving end of Paypal's hilarious we're-not-a-bank-but-we're-going-to-freeze-your-assets shenanigans, though I know several who have.

It's too bad Paypal's practices are questionable. But that's no reason to set off a bomb. People are pissed off at lots of things all the time, but don't send mail bombs or go postal. Maybe someone should start a class-action lawsuit instead.

And a mental case.

FWIW, I've never had any hassles with Paypal. They 'make their money' off me by transfer fees. The only requests for pin#s etc I've ever received from 'them' were obvious SPAM.
