I am yet another sorry link in the whole Buddy Holly-Picks-Steve Hoffman chain of sad events...and all I did was pick up on an article someone else posted a link to.

I guess the Houston Press is persona non grata as well...

Not everything that contains a mention of Steve is something to cheer about.

That actually got posted to sh.tv?!?!?!

Regardless, it's a fascinating article.

Can't argue with that reasoning.

Well, the person that started the thread only supplied the link and a comment along the lines of "Have you heard of Buddy Holly and the Picks? Wow! I had no idea about any of this..."

A few replies were added, mostly bashing the Picks' recordings and dissing the plethora of shoddy, budget-bin CDs that seem to be everywhere.

I went the extra measure of posting a reply along the lines of "What a fascinating article...and it even mentions Steve!" And I quoted the entire section detailing Steve's involvement in the whole sordid mess.

Needless to say, the ENTIRE thread disappeared within 30 minutes.

But for a brief, shining moment the truth was out on SH Forums...and then the axe fell.

It's like "the love that dare not speak its name" -- I outed someone with a readily available, publicly archived news story yet they cannot use it as the reason for the banning...

Interesting...when I try getting onto the forums now, I get a 404 Not Found error.

Oh, that's just the terrorists and their evil Denial of Service attacks again.

Anyone know the SHtv screen name of the person who started that thread? I came in way too late to catch any of this.

Btw, we'd better not talk this up too much...especially with these impressionable new ICE folk around...or Luke will have to reopen the Snakepit. OR WORSE.

Nice work, 801!

Hell Bank Note correctly predicted the length of time it would take to get a lifetime ban by posting about the "Forbidden Topic."

Whatever happened to hell bank note anyway? He was full of tasty information and I don't even see his name at SC any longer.

Wow. So what's the real story, 'cause this sounds like some SERIOUS shit, and in an article about a no-name, never-was band of all places. (Well, one with a Buddy Holly connection....)

Supposedly the little misadventure with those Petty tapes is what got Hoffman canned from MCA. Maybe true, maybe not -- just what I've read here and elsewhere.

Anyone catch that one deleted thread by "Ben Dover"?
