It's his personal decision to close the forum, surely, but the gloating emanating from Grant and prix is Luke's cross to bear, and one he brings on himself. Spin it any way you wish, but the timing sure is interesting, isn't it? However indirectly or, uh, "coincidentally," Luke has caved into two SHite trolls. There can be little doubt that Hoffman, Dave NightGorf, Ed Bishop, LeeS, et al. are indeed celebrating Luke's decision and patting themselves on the back for such a job well done. Of course I don't believe that is what Luke intended, but he nevertheless has to live with the consequences of his actions.
As I said, I really don't give a fuck. I'll post a new URL within the hour, and that ought to put a stop to all of this "controversy."
It's a good idea...SHTv is absurd enough to deserve its *own* parody/takedown site.
Krabapple, all I meant by "dourness" and "reluctance" is just that. Luke was never a gleeful contributor to the Snakepit in the first place, and he's never made it a secret that he wasn't too thrilled with the content of the Snakepit. Moreover, he felt such nonsense sullied his Who and Clapton remaster threads. I don't believe that he would disagree with this statement.
I've seen Luke join in the spirit of things. I'm also someone who's occasionally (though not for some time now) questioned the tone of the Snakepit. It's not like anyone has to always love or always hate the Snakepit, is it?
I'm *glad* Luke split off the Snakepit from other threads, about remasters or otherwise. Jeebus, what a chore FLO wouldn't been to wade through if every sub-forum was allowed to morph into an SHTv bitch-slap.
FLO was obviously conceived out of necessity -- Luke being banned from SHtv -- and its purpose was to be nothing more or less than SHtv without the heavyhanded censorship. Otherwise, the mentality and content was very much the same (boomer rock, boomer rock, and more boomer rock). Fine and dandy -- that's what he likes and that's what he wants.
It is a shame, though, that the past week at FLO has seen Luke adopting SHtv-like tactics, such as deleting posts that people take the time to write, Amy uncomprehendingly denouncing my dialectical photo triptychs as "nonsense," on and on. Yes, it's their forum; they're under no obligation to host anything they don't want to host, but it is too bad (I think) that Luke couldn't have gone about this in a better way.
Huge inline photo collages not only 'endanger' people who read FLO at uptight workplaces, they also suck up bandwidth. I'd much rather that be used for wavforms.
Anyway, in perfect hindsight it's obvious that the SHtv razzing would eventually need its *own* dedicated site -- it metastasized *that* much.
Now's as good a time as any.
