Beyond my "anyone have an extra machine around" plea a few months ago, I don't plan on it. I'd rather not get into a situation where I have to worry about sustaining things.

I'd like to see it back, but the noise level was getting awfully high and I have no workable suggestions to fix that. Maybe periodic vacations is all that is needed to get everyone to calm down a little. I hope so. If not, I don't see what else Luke can do, realistically, except to close it down permanently.
While it's tempting to blame Rantz, Luvmusic, or other "outsiders," it's clear to me that things were already getting close to the breaking point with all the inline images that suddenly started appearing. We can't blame anyone for that but ourselves.

I concur with Dob. While it would be disappointing if Luke was just "caving in" to the over-sensitive fanboys from SH.tv (and one truly demented one, Prix - that's if they're not ALL him as part of his multiple personality disorder), there were probably "other" issues playing a part of it as well. I certainly haven't helped, perhaps over-reacting to both Luke and Dudelsack recently.
I'd like to see Luke give it one more shot. If anything, as I have pointed out to the SH.tv trolls, there hasn't been anything "mean-spirited" in recent threads about SH.tv. Sure there's a bit of edge to it but that is all borne out from the fact that these are ex-SH.tv members who were all censored from having reasonable discourse at that site. If anyone can point out something offensive that was said recently, I'd like to know. I don't consider taking NightGort Dave to task for his "expertise", Grant for his wayward spelling or Steve Hoffman for his dubious auctions to be offensive at all. Someone please convince me otherwise.
It's all just a bit of a laugh, really.

All: If you want to organize somewhere else to go, please keep it in the scope of this thread.
It wasn't.
I suggested that if anyone had any ideas about us gathering somewhere else, that they post it here.
That was at the beginning of the thread, not buried in the middle.
I believe we have struck a nerve somewhere and we should therefore continue until we die out naturally, not at the 15th trolling attempt from our biggest parody subject. Not to mention the original porno avatar.
The squeaky member finally gets oiled.
Wha Happened?

It *is* disconcerting to have those Mike Hunte troll posts brought back with earnest seriousness.

Well, I was drawn here by the Snakepit, and bemoan its lockdown as much as the next guy, but it really did seem towards the end that we were reaching for subjects ... sort of like the last 10-15 minutes of every episode of SNL. Perhaps the lockdown will allow us to fill our tanks with new inspiration from the pages of SHTv while we actually use this forum to discuss music and politics in an uncensored venue. What a novel concept!

Don't despair. An alternative is coming very soon (the next day or so), sans the dourness and reluctance of FLO's operators. It is Luke's forum and he can do what he likes; I have no problem with that.
Now if "Luvmusic" (who may very well be Grant with a spell checker) wishes to come forward as the virtual equivalent of a bookburner, then that is his choice -- and an attitude which I sincerely hope that no one here shares. I really would hate to see Luke cave into this zealotry and delete the Snakepit content. I and many others have put a lot of work into that, and even if the quality ratio is not exactly 100%, there are some memorable things there (Beatle haiku thread, etc.).
Luke, do let me know if you wish to be rid of it, because I will be happy to take that content off your hands. I just do not want to see everyone's work consigned to oblivion. Even if you don't like it, that's no reason to burn anything.
So, everyone who is interested -- watch this space. New forum coming soon.
I do thank Luke for hosting, but it is time to move on. This arrangement ought to make everyone happy. The new forum will be more expansive - both silly and serious, and FLO, I guess, can get back to its annual bimonthly Who's Next post.

IME,some of SNLs' *best* stuff is in those last few minutes...I guess they figure no one's watching by that time, so the weird shit goes there -- like when Jim Carrey hosted, the last skit was a fantastic one about a guy selling crank as a weight-loss supplement...'Ride the Snake'...
