Simpsons Season 6

Postby MK » Fri Nov 25, 2005 12:24 pm

Anybody get this? I just got it this morning and I called the number for the box replacement (for "those who fear change"). Funny stuff, someone ought to record it for posterity before it's taken down.

After hearing all the bitching and moaning about the box, I have to say it's pretty cool. The plastic wasn't as cheap as I thought it would be (I heard worse), it's still sturdy enough to seal pretty well.

BTW, this was my first and probably LAST time I'll be shopping on Black Friday. It's insane. I had delusions it would be fun until I was woken up early this morning and realized I had made a mistake. Then we went from store to store, and I learned the following: the bigger, more popular shopping centers are the worst. Doesn't matter if it's a retail chain, a high-end store, whatever, they're flooded with customers who apparently never went to sleep and the one measly thing I wanted (this box set) was gone at Circuit City less than an hour after they opened. It was only $15 or 16, and they were out, and other places weren't doing price matching. I ended up 'settling' for Target's great deal, $20 after taxes (well over 50% off) where I learned the next big lesson: if you want to go to a major retail chain, go to one at a smaller and less popular place, like a mini-mall isolated from other shopping centers. The Target I went to was relatively, SHOCKINGLY quiet in comparison, and they had plenty of Simpsons sets left, hours after opening.

Yeah, I think I got it when it came out. I don't understand all of the problems with the box either. I'll probably get the "regular" box just to have, but this one didn't seem like too much of a pain or anything.

I think they've finally gotten their act together with the past couple seasons. Good transfers, nice menus, etc. Of course, my interest is going to start to wane in a few seasons, but I suppose I'll keep picking them up.

I couldn't find it anywhere...that said, I'm a lousy shopper.

I think a few places online still have it for around that price.

Does anybody know, BTW, where to find the cheapest price on the current Home Movies season box?

Black Friday sales usually last until Saturday, right? You can check here:

Just to warn you, I don't recall seeing that set in any ads I flipped through this morning.

As for the Simpsons, Target and Circuit City are the two places that had a huge markdown. I think used copies on amazon are cheap, about the same price or even less. But again, it's used so buyer beware.

BTW, the next Simpsons set is a Marge head, so they haven't abandoned the concept.

That said, I think Season 8's where I'm stopping. From there, I may rent some discs and burn the occasional episode in some kind of DVD compilation.

In fact, I've actually STOPPED watching new episodes from this season. I saw the Halloween episode and parts of a the one before and after, but the show ain't funny anymore. I think Harry Shearer was right, these last 3-4 seasons have been the worst.

I haven't watched the Simpsons regularly in years, althouhg whenever I catch episodes I usually enjoy them (how long ago was Lisa's bully? I really liked that one).

I found all of those Black Friday sites (and there are, what, two hundred of them?) to be gloriously unhelpful. Then again, I can't quite get Fatwallet to work either, so maybe I just suck at this.
