Classic DVD consumer guide rundown
Warner just release details of their OWN DVD release of Dead Ringers, which has been in-print outside the U.S. by other labels, but hasn't been in-print here ever since Criterion lost their license to make it.
Like I said, other DVD's outside the U.S. licensed Criterion's great extras: one in Europe and one in Canada. Both of these discs have different artwork, but both identify the bonuses as Criterion's extras, and in the case of the Canadian DVD, the same transfer may have been used (the European DVD uses a different one that's inferior; it's also 1.85:1, not the 1.66:1 preferred by Cronenberg).
The Warner DVD is gonna have new extras, but they don't sound as impressive. New commentary, but featuring only Irons (Irons participated in the Criterion commentary, too). A new 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer, along with Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 stereo tracks, but again, Cronenberg preferred 1.66:1, and I doubt the 5.1 mix is gonna be great. A behind- the-scenes featurette, interviews with the cast and crew, the " Dead Ringers Psychological Profiler" (?) and the original theatrical trailer.

Plus Errol Morris box set in late July. He did "Fog Of War," which won an Oscar (the Robert McNamara documentary).
The box set is three films that have been OOP for awhile, two of which rank among the best documentaries EVER: The Thin Blue Line and Gates of Heaven. I haven't seen the third film in the box set, (Vernon, Florida), but if you love offbeat pictures you should see Gates of Heaven, and if you love detective stories, you should see The Thin Blue Line. Hell, you should see both even if you don't, grow an open mind, don't pigeon-hole yourself.
