I am trying to compile several different clips onto one DVD using Nero. The sources all have stereo audio and when I preview the project before placing it onto the disc, the audio in the preview mode is stereo. After the project has burned successfully in Nero and I try to play it back on my stand alone DVD player, the audio is mono.

I should that this issue doesn't occur if I backup a DVD using DVD shrink and then burn it onto a disc.

This is my 2nd computer where this issue has occurred so I am thinking that I am definitely part of the problem here but not quite sure where to start in resolving this issue. Any help is appreciated!

Did you ever work out what the problem was?

I didn't see that posted question until just now. But I would think it might have been an issue with reading and then re-encoding AC-3 (DD Digital) soundtracks, and if the license for Dolby is not part of the software, then a new stream might have been the way they went, and a mono one at that.

I do a lot of video editing and DVD output, and this stuff is pretty complex.

In the past year I have been handling HDV footage, and it is like learning all over again. I never feel truly up to snuff, and always am a bit behind the curve. Right now I need to learn After Effects from Adobe to feel like I am worthy.

Earlier today I was on my Mac making some changes to a 60 min. cut of a project I shot and edited. It is a band recording their album in a studio. And they paid me to shoot it only. The 60min. cut is for my demo use.

Anyway, a very small change made to the cut, and then render for..........12 hours!!!!!! That's right, my video will be viewable at 3am this coming morning. And I don't know if I will be done with the cut either (but I think so). It is the HDV footage that takes forever to process. But anyway, I am just glad I am getting this stuff down, and had the opportunity to direct something. The band was pretty hot, and so my demo will look and sound great.

The reason I did only a 60min. cut and not any longer is so that I can use PCM sound, have picture encoded at 8200kbs, thus resulting in top quality picture and sound. No Dolby Digital AC-3 for me on this one.

I would have used DVD Shrink to gather up sections form DVDs and reauthor them into one DVD. But perhaps this suggestion is a light year too late.

Funny you should mention this as I revisited this issue today!

Before one of my hard drive re-images, I was able to burn a DVD with stereo audio (this was Nero 7), but I recall the DVD player displaying something weird about the audio. Then the Vista world caved in and I didn't get another chance to work with it.

So in my email today, I get a coupon for $100 off Nero 9. Reading some of the reviews online were down right frightening with complaints ranging from the ridiculously long install time (best scenario I saw was 30 minutes, it took a little over an hour to install on mine with several components not installed) to the overall bloat of the software.

I decided to go ahead and download the trial just for laughs rather than take advantage of the offer right now. Lo and behold, the DVD burned with stereo audio at a 48khz 16-bit stream. I can't do all that much right now is the functionality is limited, but needless to say, this a pretty big selling point with right now.

I think there is more going on than just Nero folds to mono.

But you want to know somehting really funny. I bought Nero 6 and went around to forums to get an idea of what updates would be good to have for it since it was out almost a year when I finally went for it.

Somehow someone posing as Nero or Ahead software got my email address and sent me the key to unlock unlimited audio encoding. Someone mad a Nero perhaps, I don't know. But the email started off as "Dear Fuck" thank you for your purchase, here is your free PowerPak serial number. It was addresses from sales@nero.com. But fo course they would not have called me Dear Fuck, unless it was the guys last day on the job???? I have no idea, but love my unlimited encoding of MP3s, etc. And the datebase brings in the song tags nicely too.

The serial number did indeed unlock some features. And since I did not register the software, I don't know how they got my email address. Another one of those mysteries.

Is the newer Nero a 64bit version for Vista?
