I guess that's encouraging. When I looked up some right-wing blogs a few hours ago, I found nothing but raves.

It was interesting that she repeated lies that have already been debunked in recent days (her opposition to earmarks and the "bridge to nowhere"). That doesn't seem like a good strategy.

And is Sarah Palin the only person who calls him John S. McCain?

I should clarify. I was reading blogs and comments *within* the news organizations...ABC, CBS, etc.

I wouldn't expect anything less from the dedicated rightie blogs. They're looking to rationalize and validate this party move. I guess it helps them sleep at night.

Anyone who is willing to "rave" after that smarmy reading of a prepared speech...has already made their bed. Cue: Tom Raum.

After the last 15 years, I shouldn't be so surprised to see baldfaced lies and unsourced opinion/commentary in what is supposed to be a straight news piece. Yet I am. As other people have said regarding this passage: "Name one.""



EDIT: Apparently Raum's been a writer for the AP for 35 years. That makes this kind of blatant journalistic low-balling all the more unacceptable.

As far as the speech goes, I didn't watch it, but from reading the transcript it might have been more to the point for her to just throw chunks of red meat into the crowd.

Mocking Obama's community service is pretty thin ice for an earmark-grubbing petty dictator mayor of a wide spot in the road. She's Boss Hogg in drag.

I think it's important for everyone within ear's shot to be reminded by the media -- all day -- that Matt Scully wrote that speech. Not her. The bulk of it wasn't even originally written *for* her.

Republican speeches are fairly interchangeable though...

Over at Daily Kos, billmon is pointing out that "community organizer" is code for "ghetto-based black radical socialist welfare enabler." That about sums it up.

But it ain't working, at least with women. Here's an Emily's List poll of 800 women conducted before the speech:

And when asked which ticket had the most experience to run the country, 52 percent opted for the Democrats compared to 37 percent for the Republicans.

Obama, a young senator from Illinois, has been under fire for months from Republicans for his perceived lack of government experience compared to McCain, a Vietnam veteran who has worked in Congress for more than two decades.

In a similar poll conducted in August, McCain had a 35 point lead over Obama, said Geoff Garin, from pollsters Garin-Hart-Yang.

"To lose the experience argument is really devastating for the McCain campaign. Not just now but over the long haul in the next two months," Garin said.

I love these Interwebs exposure moments. It's like in 'They Live' or 'Devil's Advocate' when you get to see what the evil aliens or demons really look like. Noonan's another loathsome right-wing stalking-points sock puppet, all the more heinous for being a good writer.

Well, that's been shown to be true his week, though probably not in the way she means.

Based on the scanty evidence thus far, I don't think she's a True Believer Wingnut as much as someone who will say whatever it takes to fire up the more easily fired up among the electorate.

I didn't get to see or hear the speech, but all the old ladies at work loved it. I got to read the excerpts and needless to say I've come to the conclusion that the only good Palin is this one:

A senior McCain campaign official advises that, despite the gaggle of requests and pressure from the media, Gov. Sarah Palin won't submit to a formal interview anytime soon. She may take some questions from local news entities in Alaska, but until she's ready -- and until she's comfortable -- which might not be for a long while -- the media will have to wait. The campaign believes it can effectively deal with the media's complaints, and their on-the-record response to all this will be: "Sarah Palin needs to spend time with the voters."

Not out of the question are appearances on lighter, fluffier television shows. But -- not for a while.

And this is where the media will truly define whether or not it's going to do what it's *supposed* to do!

But, hey...she's on the cover of People magazine, and her designer glasses are all the rage. Stop picking on her!


PS - I just saw a television poll where 50% of those surveyed said she's *not ready* to be President. BUT...42% said she WAS!!!

I finally watched part of her speech, and I have to say that I wasn't too impressed by her delivery. For a first-timer, though, not bad.

I cannot believe, however, that the media reports (fuck, check the front page of Yahoo) are all Maverick maverick reformer reformer look at the cute kids!

That's the thing...she's hardly a "first-timer." She's a former television anchor who's used to reading off of a teleprompter (and accustomed to sounding like she actually means it!).

Yeah, this kids "electrify the web" stuff is just too much. Seriously, I haven't heard a single person today say anything about this. Next, they'll be photographing him as Santa Claus reading The Night Before Xmas to them, while they're dressed in matching sweaters!

Note to media: The Convention's over.


What is the deal with Yahoo anyway? Like I mentioned earlier, after Obama's universally praised acceptance speech -- a speech which Pat Buchanan(!) himself stated was "the single greatest convention speech" he had ever heard -- they couldn't wait to main-page the one thorny AP report they could find, as well as a headline response to his speech from the Republicans. More importantly, they left it there ALL DAY. The "24-hour" news cycle stalled. I know the media (for obvious reasons) likes a horse race. But, c'mon now.

While Palin is refusing all interviews, Matt Drudge, ABC, and Newsday have somehow managed to manufacture a ridiculous story about Oprah Winfrey refusing to have Palin on her show. (She's not having any of the candidates on her show. She endorsed Obama off-air but hasn't had him on the show since he started running for president.)

The ABC story is especially awful, with extensive quotes from "Dr. Cindy Grossman-Green, a pediatrician and Oprah fan from outside Philadelphia," who's furious with Oprah over this.
