I liken the whole thing to a boxer swinging blindly, hoping that they'll land one occasionally. She wildly strings words and concepts together the same way.

Though, I was always under the impression that the entire purpose of a debate was to a) answer the question at hand and b) formulate an answer -- either pro or con -- based on some semblance of fact and reason. Simply changing the topic isn't "exceeding expectations" in any way, shape or form. I understand that debate participants are going to play loose with the facts if they can get away with it, but to simply ignore and then read a stump speech *isn't* debating. I think she directly answered 5 questions all night!

I can't believe how many so-called pundits who should know better are completely giving her a free pass on this. If it was a high school debate, she would have received a failing grade...at best.

Simply changing the topic AND answering 5 questions all night is about all she can afford to do. At this point they know the numbers are not there for them.

The bailout voting numbers show that the Pubs were the larger group who voted thumbs down on it, despite it being Bush's plan, and his administration that caused the economic meltdown we are in right now in the first place.

What this says to me is that even the Republicans are not going for McCain/Palin ticket. And unless Obama gets involved in a huge scandal like a "love child" that surfaces, the Republican ticket is doomed. So Palin really is best advised to try and not blow it, and do not answer any questions, and then smile and look as sincere as possible. It is that bad.

Like I have suggested, even Republicans are going Obama. And the voting percentage of R vs. D on the bailout is another sign of what I have seen in California. I think it all points to Reps admitting Bush and the R ticket is a hopeless prospect at this time.

btw, I did not watch the debate, I only read the analysis. I turns my stomach.

It simply amazes me how many idealogues on the right are willing to sabotage this country by refusing to admit that -- "folksy charm" or not -- she's completely in over her head. Her role has been reduced to that of rally mouthpiece. Her "VP powers" answer yesterday was nothing short of frightening in its ignorance.

They know in their hearts that she's not qualified to be (heaven forbid) President. Yet, winning at all costs is still what matters most to them. To hear Pat Buchanan and Peggy Noonan today was nothing short of surreal - particularly in light of the latter's previous off-the-cuff remarks. I expect this kind of crap from Limbaugh and Hannity, but not from people who at least try to present themselves as "sane" (though, personally, I'll never attach that word to Pat B.).

It could be Paris Hilton up there, and they would be praising her for her "down-to-earth" charm and "executive" experience!

"Troopergate" is still there waiting to bite her in the ass. She is a liability to the party. The McCain party took a chance and it backfired on them. That is what I see.

They can keep spinning the "folksy charm" or praising her for her "down-to-earthiness" all they want. It is only to some of them (Republican party members) that it counts. The rest of the country is a bit jaded, and the kids are more cynical than previous generations due to being exposed to the internet at such young ages.

And that, the younger voters is where all the difference is going to be this time.

Palin's debate performance gives National Review's Rich Lowry a stiffie:

A very wise TV executive once told me that the key to TV is projecting through the screen. It's one of the keys to the success of, say, a Bill O'Reilly, who comes through the screen and grabs you by the throat. Palin too projects through the screen like crazy. I'm sure I'm not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, "Hey, I think she just winked at me." And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can't be learned; it's either something you have or you don't, and man, she's got it.

"Little starbursts?" Christ on a cracker.

And now...Noonan backpedals after originally fawning over Palin's debate performance:

Obviously a lot of morons moved into Cuyahoga County after I left.

Some of the stuff said in that clip is down right disturbing. I personally love the person who just heard of Obama "this year."

I thought it was also interesting that Newsweek used the worst picture of Gov Palin on their cover this week. I saw it in the check out line the other day. Did you guys see that, a close up that just looks awful.

And then this below, that issue that just won't go away.

Court Dismisses Bid to Halt Palin Probe
By MATT APUZZO, AP
posted: 5 HOURS 59 MINUTES AGOcomments: 208filed under: Election News, Sarah PalinPrintShareText SizeAAAANCHORAGE, Alaska (Oct. 9) - The state Supreme Court refused Thursday to halt an ethics investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee.
[b]The ruling clears the way for lawmakers on Friday to release a report on their investigation into whether Palin abused her power by firing her public safety commissioner. The report could prove to be an embarrassment for Palin and a distraction for John McCain's presidential campaign.

Lawmakers are investigating whether Palin abused her power to settle a family dispute. Her former public safety commissioner says he was dismissed after resisting pressure to fire a state trooper who had gone through a nasty divorce from Palin's sister.
Republican lawmakers had sued to block the report, saying it had become politicized. Palin didn't join that lawsuit. Her husband, Todd, and some of her top aides are cooperating in the inquiry.
In affidavits submitted Wednesday, Todd Palin and two top aides for his wife's administration portrayed the firing as the result of continued wrangling between the governor and her public safety commissioner over control of the agency. The affidavits also portray Sarah Palin as uninvolved while her husband repeatedly tried to spread the word that their former brother-in-law was unfit to remain a state trooper.
In its ruling, the Supreme Court refused to block the legislative investigation but did not immediately explain why.
For several years, dating before Sarah Palin became governor, Todd Palin was telling state officials and the couple's close circle of advisers emotional stories about Mike Wooten, their former brother-in-law, threatening and emotionally abusing his family.
Todd Palin said he talked to anyone who would listen. He gave them photos and documents, which they forwarded to others in the administration, and he questioned how Wooten kept his job.
Walter Monegan says he was fired from his job as public safety commissioner for not dismissing Wooten, a claim that eventually led to the politically charged investigation just before McCain chose Palin as his running mate in late August.
Palin says she fired Monegan over a budget dispute.
Todd Palin said he never pressured anyone, including his wife. In fact, he says that after repeatedly talking with her about the matter, she finally told him to "drop it."
"Anyone who knows Sarah knows she is the governor and she calls the shots," Todd Palin wrote. "I make no apologies for wanting to protect my family and wanting to publicize the injustice of a violent trooper keeping his badge."
Republican lawmakers argued before the state Supreme Court this week that the legislative inquiry should be shut down and the report not released. The state's personnel board also is looking into the matter, and Palin has said she thinks that inquiry is more appropriate.

I haven't seen it full-sized, but the images of it I have seen don't seem to be a big deal. Of course, Fox goes crazy over it:
