Or he could have eschewed the relentless negativity (which did him no good whatsoever) and made a sensible VP choice rather than pandering to the worst elements of the GOP base.

The economy was still the ultimate undoing. I think if it didn't meltdown, we might still be on the edge of our seats and probably a bit more drunk.

Exactly, there are these fundamental reasons why McCain failed. Each one serious on it's own, but combined created a doomed path.
I liked the way he talked and his reasoning was appealing. Had he been a Dem things could have been different. That's how flawed his party is.
It's like saying had I been born rich I would have had it all.
