During the September 19 edition of his nationally syndicated radio program, discussing his recent trip to have dinner with Rev. Al Sharpton at Sylvia's, a famous restaurant in Harlem, Bill O'Reilly reported that he "had a great time, and all the people up there are tremendously respectful," adding: "I couldn't get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it's run by blacks, primarily black patronship." Later, during a discussion with National Public Radio senior correspondent and Fox News contributor Juan Williams about the effect of rap on culture, O'Reilly asserted: "There wasn't one person in Sylvia's who was screaming, 'M-Fer, I want more iced tea.' You know, I mean, everybody was -- it was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun. And there wasn't any kind of craziness at all." O'Reilly also stated: "I think black Americans are starting to think more and more for themselves. They're getting away from the Sharptons and the [Rev. Jesse] Jacksons and the people trying to lead them into a race-based culture. They're just trying to figure it out. 'Look, I can make it. If I work hard and get educated, I can make it."

Typically, Bill-O simply goes on the attack:

Longer video here, where Bill-O claims everybody else is just desperate because they are "ratings disasters".
I'd still like to know how posting his words (with original audio or video) is a "smear".
BTW, can anybody figure out why Bill-O always refers to himself as "we"?

Bill-O wrote:Well, yesterday, Media Matters distorted the entire conversation and implied I was racist for condemning racism. Stunningly, CNN echoed the defamation on at least three of its programs.
The reason CNN did this is because its ratings are abysmal. It is getting hammered by Fox News. So they're desperate for attention. And smearing me is one way to get it.

"Talking Points" has said many times on this broadcast that we respect CNN. We didn't attack them in any way. And in the past, they have been responsible. But this is absurd.

Grammar aside, I thought this comment was great:
"Billo just love to blame the mirror for making him look ugly."

It continues:

Regardless of the context argument (which I think is moot anyway, since MM did post quite a bit of what he said), how exactly are MM "liars"? How is posting what he said lying?

Dear Mr. O'Reilly,
I'm so sorry to hear that you're being attacked by hate sites for saying some black people are almost civilized. I have nothing but respect for you. You've been able to hold the same job for many years. And as far as I can tell, you're not constantly drunk and you brawl only infrequently. You've overcome a lot of genetic and cultural baggage to get where you are today.
And I think you've become an excellent role model for your people. I went to an Irish pub for lunch the other day, and I have to admit I was very surprised by how everyone behaved. It was about 11:30, and no one was drunk yet; no one was brawling; and I didn't see a single patron yelling" "Give me another whiskey ya fookin' gobshite 'fore i give ya a few vinegar strokes up the rasher." They were just like real people. Obviously they're following your example.
Heterosexually yours,
