I quite like my Audio-Technica ATH-M40fs ' . They're old fashioned closed-ear headphones with comfy cushions. I bought 'em a few years back after doing some research on good-value 'phones. I think I got mine at a local Guitar Center for around $60.

I've heard good things about Audio Technica. So they're more like the Denons than the Grados?

Beats me, as I've never heard either (I don't even know which Grados we're talking about)

but they *look* like the Denons:

(and can be had for somewhat less than Sweetwater's price...Froogle is your friend)

btw, this place seems to have the Denons (Froogle is again your friend)

They don't; I called.

Irritatingly, all of the places that claim to have the item in stock...don't.

I'm in similar trouble. My favorite son (I have only 1) destroyed my favorite headphone. One ear doesn't work anymore. It was a pretty dumb JVC thing with 2 great advantages: it had at least 4 metres of wire, so you could really walk around with it and it had a little mono swith which was very handy and which I used all the time. When I first had it I thought it was nothing, but after 10 years of use I miss it.
