I need a Phono Stage Recommendation

Postby dcooper » Thu Apr 28, 2005 1:00 pm

My parents just moved from my childhood home into a much smaller condo, and in the move I found a ton of LPs in my closet. So, I brought them home and now I'm thinking about getting a TT. A friend has a Music Hall MMF-5 that I like, but I'll need a phono stage since there's no phono input on my receiver. Can someone recommend a decent (read: inexpensive) phono stage?

IIRC Circuit City/ Best Buy used to sell a small in-line phone preamp for about $25-30; Radio Shack has them too. Should do the job just fine. I also see lots of small DJ -type mixers, with phone inputs, at my local pawn shop. I use a two-input Gemini model meself.

Are you sure I shouldn't go with the $500 Grado?!

Tanks for the link, Ess Ay.

There are Stanton and Gemini turntables being sold now that include the phono stage in the TT. Some models also have an optical out.
