Total Recorder? HDCD? Stupid idea?

anyone know much about this piece of software?

I'm trying to think of a way to play HDCDs through Windows Media PLayer (which can decode HDCDs) and capture the output entirely in the digital domain for recording as a.wav file. (The alternative is to run the output of my soundcard into the input, and re-digitize). Total Recorder claims to be able to record streams from apps such as WMP. Any ideas?

IME, WAVs are inherently inferior to CD-DA.

[I tried Total Recorder years ago, so I'm of no help.]

I don't really see the point. I don't think you gain that much from HDCD. What would you plan on doing with the files subsequently?

1) listen to them for pleasure, and

2) compare them to non-decoded version; but to do this properly, the only variable should be whether it was HDCD decoded or not
