Spasmodic Subwoofer

Postby Xenu » Tue Apr 12, 2005 9:02 pm

Hey all,

I have a bit of a weird problem. Essentially, it's this: I have a (at this point) four year old pair of Harmon Kardon computer speakers. The speakers consist of a subwoofer and two smaller satellites.

Starting about two weeks ago, occasionally something very odd will happen. My subwoofer will...well, for lack of a better phrase, go totally out of control. The amount of treble on the satellites will suddenly plummet, and the sub will start outputting an insane amount of bass.

Generally, unplugging and re-plugging in the speakers (from the computer or from the subwoofer) will temporarily correct the problem, but it'll come back in around 10 minutes.

Given the semi-efficacy of the above fix, I'm thinking that something's going wrong with voltage...i.e. maybe the plugs are acting up, or static is building up, or something. Short of replacing the speakers, anybody have any idea as to solutions?

No help, I know, but I'm trying to think of a joke for a spastic colon...
