Postby krabapple » Thu Nov 18, 2004 3:14 am

I bought this when I was in the UK two weeks ago.

Got around to playing it tonight.

It rocks awesomely. Get it.

Over and out.

When did this come out? Is it UK only? And did Mew work on it? (He did Machine Head and Fireball, right?)

You are mean meanie SACD, and I'm a-gonna tell on you to the Gorts! (If I can distract them from masturbating over the CD release -- FINALLY THANK GOD -- of crappily-reprocessed-for-tiny-transistor-radio-circa-1964 albums from the BESTEST BAND IN THE WORLD THEN, NOW AND 4-EVER: THE BEATLES!)

Patrick, the Burn remaster came out at the end of September. UK/Europe only. Haven't read the credits closely enough to see who did the work -- but it sounds great to me. I do know that Roger Glover, who oversaw the previous remasters, wasn't involved in this one (by his own choice).

There's some bonus remixes on the disc too, which on cursory listening seem to be of some interest (thought the remixed title track manages to somehow sound 'tamer' than the original, go figure) Also one bonus B-side that wasn't on the original LP. I think I've underrated this album over the years....my opinion is changing with this rerelease.

I was going to buy this, but I have a Friend who works in Human Resources(tm) who told me this remaster was shit.

Overall, I think Peter Mew has done a commendable job on the Deep Purple catalog. The SACD of Machine Head is not only the best version of the album that I have heard, it is one of the best SACDs I've heard, period. And if I had to choose one version of the live Japan concerts, it would be Mew's 3 CD Live In Japan set over the DCC Made In Japan (which, IMO, is one of SH's most overrated remasters). I wasn't thrilled with the Fireball anniversary edition, but it did have some good moments.

I also have a Japan "mini-LP" CD of Burn (which I like) but I can't find any remastering credits on it.

To be fair, not everyone on SHtv hates Peter Mew, though it does seem that way. I just think that the Mew haters have bigger mouths.

The first Herbert Kornfeld column I ever read was "Keep Your Fucking Shit Off My Desk," and I laughed so hard I hurt myself.

Mr. Potatohead! Mr. Potatohead!! Herbert Kornfeld does NOT work in human resources.

He works in Accounts Receivable.

Or should I say, Accountz-Reeceevable.

10 points to who can tell me what that's lifted from.

Well, your Friend who works in Human Resources(tm), whoever he is (and I'm quite sure it's a he), is talking shizzle.
