Anyone heard this yet? A new(ish) release from Bad Wizard aka Scorpio; contains some upgrades on rare stereo mixes and a real find in the Chess 'Key to the Highway' and 'Mercy Mercy,' and 'Going Home' snippets/false starts (I presume from the timings) I'm curious how the new stuff sounds.

(Tracks/info c/o Chris M's 'Revelations On the Rolling Stones' website)

Go Home Girl 2:24 (De Lane Lea Recording Studio Nov. 14, 1963)
Mercy Mercy 2:44 (Chess Studio Nov. 8, 1964)
Key To The Highway 3:23 (Chess Studio Nov. 8, 1964)
Leave Me Alone 1:55 (Regent Sound Studio Nov. 20-22, 1963)
Suzie Q 1:52 (Regent Sound Studio Feb. 5, 1964)
Goodbye Girl 2:12 (Chess Studio Nov. 8, 1964)
It Should Be You 1:43 (Regent Sound Studio Nov. 20-21, 1963)
That Girl Belongs To Yesterday 2:04 (Regent Sound Studio Nov. 20-21, 1963)
Con Le Mie Lacrime 2:57 (IBC Studio March 15, 1966)
Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing In The Shadow? 2:31 (Rough mix) (RCA Hollywood Studio Aug. 3-11, 1966
Paint It Black 2:20 (Instrumental backing track) (RCA Hollywood Studio Mar. 8-9, 1966)
Lady Jane 3:09 (This is a mono instrumental, so I thought it might be a faked alternate track, but it includes the harpsichord which cuts in on the alternate channel) (RCA Hollywood Studio Mar. 8-9, 1966
Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing In The Shadow? 2:37 (Alternate Mix I) (RCA Hollywood Studio Aug. 3-11, 1966
Paint It Black 3:18 (This true stereo mix also found on the SACD remastered release of "Aftermath" on ABKCO) (RCA Hollywood Studio Mar. 6-9, 1966)
19th Nervous Breakdown 3:53 (Alternate stereo studio vocal version I in better quality than "Time Trip Vol. 4" or OBR's "Alternates") (RCA Hollywood Studio Dec. 3-8, 1965)
19th Nervous Breakdown 4:01 (Alternate stereo studio vocal version II) (RCA Hollywood Studio Dec. 3-8 1965)
The Last Time 3:25 (Same left instrument - right vocal true stereo version now in excellent quality) (RCA Hollywood Studio Jan. 17-18 and Feb. 17, 1965)
Heart Of Stone 2:57 (This true stereo version can be found in better quality on the commercial SACD release "Hot Rocks 1964-1971" on ABKCO) (RCA Hollywood Studio Oct. 27-Nov. 2 1965)
Going Home 1 0:19

Found this link on a forum. Have only managed to preview this on small speakers but the HYSYMB's sound very interesting - is that a true stereo mix of the single finally in decent fidelity?

Some familiar bootleg only stereo mixes (19th, Last Time). All seems to have hiss on intros so doesn't seem to be NRed.

That's some studio chatter before Going Home and Suzie too.

Interesting......

Mother still sounds like there's still room for improvement, but it's *by far* the best sounding version I've heard yet. Actual high end on the rhythm track! There's a tambourine!

Still waiting on my "holy grail" source...

Cool set. New stuff and some nice upgrades. First stereo version of mother baby (I've heard) that doesn't sound like a hollow wonky mess. Nice finds on the Chess material too.

Listening some more - it *sounds* to me like this was an analog compilation, be it cassette or open reel, that was simply dubbed to digital. There's a fairly constant hiss on everything, which thankfully wasn't filtered or removed with NR.

Talk about a crazy selection of songs.

Interesting that the stereo Paint It Black is an alternate mix - the acoustic guitar in the right channel comes in late after the intro.

The regular 19th is a few notches below what I have already, so if that's any indication, perhaps Mother can sound a few notches better than what's here.

It's pretty late, so I didn't catch that PIB difference--nice. I'd like to compare the quality of this stereo version of "Mother Baby" with the mono mix. It'll have to wait until tomorrow though.

Sounding more and more like a cassette source to me. The high end on the alt 19th keep going in and out, like with each revolution of the tape.

Have to wonder where some of this stuff came from.

I suppose it's anyone's guess as to the source.

Con Le Mie Lacrimme doesn't have the usual harpsichord overdub.

I'm thinking maybe this came from a few different sources, or at least wasn't in the same order on the cassette. The high end problems on Paint It Black and the alth 19th don't plague the standard 19th, which comes immediately after.

Heart of Stone sounds a bit different to me, although it might just be the EQ. Is the fade on the SACD that long? It's longer than I remember.

Anyone notice the Paint It Black backing is only 2:20? I wonder if that was edited, or if the original track was extended.

I've often wondered if those backing tracks exist because they were orginally mixed down for TV appearances (especially the Ed Sullivan shows).

I don't have my Ed Sullivan DVD to hand but I remember Paint It Black was edited. I'd be very interested if the edit is in the same place.

They did HYSYMB and Lady Jane on the show too which might explain those instrumentals.

The standard and alt. 19th are like apples and oranges in terms of available quality--the alt. version has always sounded terrible on the boots I've heard.

I think HOS *is* likely longer because I noticed the same thing. This version of 19th is also a bit longer (than what I have, at least)--it's almost 4 minutes here. Not sure about PIB, but the version here is about the same length as it is on the Black Box comp put out years ago.

It sounds like a cassette to me..... even the mono material has been transferred in stereo. It's got that swishy, phasey sound. Head alignment issues here (especially if you collapse it to mono).

HOS sounds longer to me too - I don't remember those ad-libs at the end.

Last Time seemingly from a different source to the rest (it doesn't go mushy in mono).

This is the first time I've heard the alt 19th in good quality too.

Going Home wasn't a one take recording was it? Ok so they might not have edited it but that's the end of a previous take before it....... another rock (Oldham) myth is disproved......

I think you nailed it. Nice catch. I never would have thought of that.

The story I always heard was they did several takes that were short, but then this one just kept going.

Still guessing the backing vocals and second guitar are overdubbed.

I stop paying attention for a day, and look what happens.

Re. the backing tracks: that was always my assumption (re preparation for TV appearances). I remember back in the day wondering why there were so many "alternate vocal" versions of Gimmie Shelter circulating, before it hit me that they were (mostly) just vocal overdubs from TV appearances.

Downloading as we speak. Luke, any chance this'll stimulate the creative, FAQ-upgrading process?;)
