Just finished reading this and have to say it's a pretty good read--very well researched with a lot of firsthand quotes from Wolf, bandmembers, family etc. I think the book gives you a pretty good sense of his complex character—probably about the most decent guy that ever killed someone. Wolf’s history is probably similar in many respects to his contemporaries, but his childhood was especially dire—kicked out by his mother, routinely beaten and starved by his uncle, etc. Finally leaves to live with his father, finds a guitar, and things pick up from there. Satisfying read in that he literally does a rags to (sort of) riches transition on his own, even though he gets screwed over by ARC music like everyone else. Didn’t start recording until he was 40 (w/Sam Philips), worked briefly as a DJ, and paid his bandmembers health insurance (!) once he was established.
Includes sessionography info, etc. Currently out of print.
