Looks like some of those demos might show up in stereo (Bill L had mentioned this in the past). I wonder if both versions of Lawdy Mama are on there or not (the press release only mentions one).

Cream's Classic '60s Album DISRAELI GEARS Presented in Both Stereo and Mono Versions on Two-CD DELUXE EDITION Released on September 28

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the landmark albums in rock history, Cream's 1967 classic DISRAELI GEARS, has been set to receive DELUXE EDITION treatment featuring a digitally remastered two-CD package that debuts a previously unreleased track. The CDs are packaged with a 24-page booklet with photographs and an essay about Cream's extraordinary history.

DISRAELI GEARS - DELUXE EDITION (Polydor/UMe), released September 28, 2004, boasts a stereo Disc One and mono Disc Two. The second album in the short but spectacular career of the pioneering power trio (Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker), DISRAELI GEARS helped lay the groundwork for the coming hard rock and heavy metal of the '70s. An inspired collision of blues, jazz, folk and psychedelia recorded in just six days, the Gold #4-charting album spawned a Gold #5 hit in "Sunshine Of Your Love" and other classic rock standards "Strange Brew," "Tales Of Brave Ulysses" and "Swlabr."

Disc One presents the album in stereo with two outtakes -- "Lawdy Mama" and a previously un-issued version of "Blue Condition" with Clapton as lead singer -- plus demos of "We're Going Wrong," "Swlabr" and three songs that didn't make the LP though they would later appear elsewhere: "Weird Of Hermiston," "The Clearout" and "Hey Now Princess."

Disc Two presents the album and the two above-mentioned outtakes in mono as well as nine performances recorded for BBC Radio between May 1967 and January 1968. Along with takes on six DISRAELI GEARS tracks, the cuts include the Clapton-led blues instrumental "Steppin' Out" and two songs that would turn up the next year on the chart-topping studio/live double album WHEELS OF FIRE, "Politician" and a cover of Albert King's "Born Under A Bad Sign." After their GOODBYE album in early 1969, Cream was no more. Its members would move on, with Clapton launching Blind Faith and Derek & the Dominos before going solo in a superstar career that continues today.

If the Disraeli Gears demos sound better than they do on the TWTD box I'll take the plunge. Was that lost session 4 track? I've heard from a few people that the complete session that's in fan circulation sounds much better than the tracks that were used on TWTD. Is that true? Also, where does this version of Blue Condition with a Clapton lead vocal come from? IIRC the take from the demo session is an instrumental..

I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure that was done at Atlantic.

Your right, I checked and it was done at Atlantic. I can't imagine why both versions wouldn't be on the DE. It's not like there are THAT many Disraeli Gears outtakes. It would certainly make more sense to add both versions of Lawdy Mama instead of some of the BBC tracks. I'm also miffed that the demos of Take It Back and Blue Condition weren't used...

I think "we'll see", as these press releases aren't always 100% spot on.

Soundwise, I agree that it is definitive. There are other tracks on the DE that have been released in not great sound (the Disraeli Gears demos and the BBC tracks) that may be improved here. Also the DE cover, I suspect, will be high quality and the booklet may have some of the Ben Nevis photo sessions, where Cream were higher than the mountain they were climbing!

What? I only see that it will be in mono and stereo, not that both versions will be included.

I don't have this in my hands yet but the samples are up at the Best Buy site. The early alternate version of Lawdy Mama is on the DE and it sounds like it is a different mix than the one on the TWTD box. Clapton's vocal sounds single tracked but it's hard to say without hearing the entire track. The other Lawdy Mama on the DE is the common Live Cream vol 1 version.

I recently recieved a CDR of the complete Disraeli Gears demo session. I can't imagine why the DG DE compilers didn't include more tracks from this demo. All of that stuff is killer.

So there's one version of Lawdy Mama (the "alt" one) in stereo while the other (Live Cream) one is mono? Strange.

Circuit City has the set listed with clips (their clips are usually stereo), but I'm at work at the moment so I can't listen.
