Bowie update

I tested Space Oddity Ryko/Virgin, Hunky Dory Ryko/Virgin, and Ziggy Ryko/Virgin (Regular)/Ryko Gold. Findings:
a) Space Oddity seemed to be a different transfer.
b) As we've discovered, HD is the *same* digital transfer. That said, it's hilarious what dual-channeling Warhol did...the buzz on the low-frequency synth is almost completely obliterated on the Virgin!
c) All three Ziggy's are different transfers, although the two Ryko ones are *really* close (their waveforms look really similar, even magnified, but they do drift).

Want a WAV sample (or more) from the CD layer of the Ziggy SACD? (I think it's pretty much the same thing as the 30th Ann CD.)

Ryan, is the SACD missing the two things absent on the 30th Anniversary CD?

You speak cryptically. I know not of these things which are missing, as I know nothing of the 30th Anniversary CD, except that people on SH.tv do not like it due to the fact that it makes their feet itchy and ears bloody.
What should I listen for?

It's hilarious alright. You'd think the no-noise box would have a button on it that let them hear what was being thrown out? If they were listening at a comfortable volume, they would have spilt coffee all over themselves.

The funny thing is, most/all *do* have such an option.

OK.
The 30th Anniversary edition of Ziggy Stardust has the following things wrong with it:
a) Channels reversed.
b) As Ziggy (the title song) ends, there's this nice little acoustic appegio that leads right into Suffragette City. It ain't theah no'mo.
c) Hang Onto Yourself normally starts off with a brief countoff by David (REALLY low in volume). It ain't theah no'mo.
These are problems.
BTW, it's worth mentioning that the regular issue Virgin sounds *startlingly* different from the two Rykos...I'm tempted to post an MP3 to show you what I mean.

a) Channels are correct on the SACD and CD layers. At least, they are the same as on my RCA Dynaflex reissue (!) and Ryko 20th anniversary thingie.
b) The Ziggy-Suffragette transition is the same on the CD, SACD, LP and Ryko CD.
c) Countoff present and accounted for.
I hear a pretty big difference between the SACD and Rykos as well, even in the brief comparison I just did. The vocal (and everything else, for that matter) on the Ryko sounds "pinched" compared to the SACD, and the Ryko is "cleaner," though not necessarily in a good way. (The reissue Dynaflex LP, of course, sounds like a load of dingo's kidneys.)

Dang, I was going to report the good news about the Ziggy SACD; you beat me to it.
Anyway, I too can verify that the stereo tracks of the SACD (either layer) have none of the reported glitches of the 30th Anniversary issue.
