Pete Townshend 'Genuine Scoop'

Postby JohnS » Wed Nov 12, 2003 8:50 am

Are we allowed to discuss boots here? I'm intrigued to hear some of Pete Townshend's home demos of Who songs, I believe that some of his 'demos' were very sophisticated in terms of arrangement and performance, almost like alternate takes. A title that seems to be getting good comments is the 'Genuine Scoop' 5CD set. I'm a bit loathe to track down a copy since at 5 discs it's expensive and for someone like me almost too comprehensive, I only know the 60s stuff really - but how does it compare to the official 'Scoop' titles? Are they a better bet for a general introduction? Have they been 'tampered with' sonically or with post-production overdubs etc... ?

All of the songs from Scoop, Another Scoop and Scoop 3 were taken from those official discs. Same with Lifehouse Chronicles and the bootlegs Tommy Demos and Music Must Change. If you have all of those cds, there's not much new on Genuine Scoop. You could probably narrow down the unique stuff to 1 disc. If you've never heard the demos, this would be a great introduction.

Thanks for the info JS - I didn't realise Genuine Scoop was sourced so much from the official Scoops, I'll probably check those out instead...
