To quote:
Just received my nice UK CD Singles box--nice complement to my US EP CD box. Thanks to this forum for turning me onto these items. Got the UK box (sealed) for $113.00, including shipping. It as 110 pounds new when I was in London this summer.

I decided to do an A/B on the some of the (mostly early) tracks that are common to the two sets. I played Please Please Me, Love Me Do and I Feel Fine. Guess what? The UK versions sound better. I was surprised because SH has said that both sets use the same tapes, so it could just be mastering differences between the US-pressed CD's and the UK-pressed ones. And, yes, by the way, each and every UK CD says "Made In UK" on it.
Each CD EP has the Capitol logo on it, as does the box.

Firstly: both sets do NOT use the same tapes. The EP Collection set generally uses slightly better sources. However, on two of the songs he mentions--Love Me Do and Please Please Me--the Singles set uses the same chewed-up mastering that shows up on the PPME album, whereas the EP Collection uses the "fixed" versions that later showed up on the Red CD (along with She Loves You and others).

So he's, like, totally wrong.

But I can't say that because I'm banned and dangerous!

I've just learned to accept that said forum has basically turned into a giant melting pot of misinformation. It's like we've come full circle - it used to be that many people assumed Japanese versions were better/best. Then that seemed to be debunked - what was good was good, it didn't matter where it came from. Now it seems like we're seeing a lot more of "well, this is a Japanese pressing, it's the best!" Substitute Japanese with "DCC", "MFSL", "UDI", "UK", "analog", "tube", etc.

Very clever list, Ryan. The above, in particular, made me laugh--but does it have some sort of meaning that I'm unaware of?

Try the following test (courtesy of Mr. Port): While your hi-fi is playing your favorite music, have your significant other or a friend pull the plug on the microwave and marvel at the difference it makes to the sound flowing out of your speakers.

What, you say, no difference? Try pulling the plug on your amp. Tell me what you hear.

Such a list is useless without "(ear bleeding) COMPRESSION" in the "bad" column.

Shit, page after page, it's a bunch of baby boomers stuck in the past. Don't get me wrong, I love all music, I listen to anything from any era, but I'm not going to pay a boatload of money to see a Simon & Garfunkel nostalgia fest where they just go through the motions. That and cling on to the same anti-rap shit that's floated around since the Reagan era.

Even worse is someone who complains about today's music, only to praise how great Paul McCartney's latest disappointing album was. "Yeah, OutKast sucks! I don't listen to them, I just hate rap! All new music sucks! Nirvana, too, even if they broke up in 1994, but I'm decades behind, so it's new to me! Hey look! A new album from a once-great legend who's way past his prime! Ooo! And another Eagles reunion! That's worth my $100!"

IIRC. Once again, Ryan, can you find the relevant post? I can't search, so I'm out. :o

Well, I did as you recommended. Heard no change when I unplugged the micro, but whoooaaah. You're right about unplugging the amp!

Steve sez he hates:

Almost every teen video I've seen in the last 20 years.

Above, I put in the "bad" column:

anything from the last 20 years
