More SACD Goodies on the way....

From
Universal's Web site:
9/30 - Sting -
Sacred Love (I always liked The Onion's album title for him the best -
The Tepid Heart)
10/14 - Michael McDonald -
Motown (no word if it comes with free phone service)
10/21 - Ludacris -
Chicken -n- Beer (don't know squat about Ludacris, but an album called
Chicken -n- Beer can't be all bad)
10/28 - The Who -
Tommy (discussed to death in another thread)
11/11 - Elvis Costello -
North (Elvis sings of all things Krall)
11/11 - Elton John -
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (apparently in two versions, a two-SACD hybrid Deluxe Edition with 5.1, and the same thing with a bonus DVD with contents as yet unknown).
"Coming Soon":
Allman Bros. -
Live At Fillmore East (this could be a blast in 5.1)
John Hiatt -
Bring The Family (will likely be delayed at least twice more...)
Ryan Adams -
Rock And Roll (new album -- is he as good as the critics say?)
Motley Crue -
Greatest Hits (fuckin' A! Whooooo!)

As SACDs can't [yet] be copied or up/downloaded, you gotta figure the industry would *love* to slowly but surely replace all CD titles with the new SACD format.

Heh. I've got a SACD player sitting right here next to my monitor, plugged via analog into my sound card. I can make quite acceptable MP3s this way. And of course on hybrids the CD layer is quite rippable.
I'm sure they wouldn't mind at all if they could migrate everyone to SACD using hybrids, then go single-layer when critical mass have players. Don't think it'll happen, though.

True, SACDs can be ripped via analog outs, but it won't be a "bit-for-bit" copy like ripping a CD is [though if you read some of the comments by sh.tv members, a CD-R is *not* bit-for-bit identical. But that's another discussion.] so what you're getting isn't the same as the original SACD.
Will the industry eventually go to single-layer SACDs at the expense of CDs? Right now I'd have to say no. But technology is progressing at a dizzying rate so what will be the norm in, say, ten years is anyone's guess. Don't forget that LPs [from the majors] disappeared seemingly overnight. That was a real shock.

Wandering a little OT:
How do the Police SACDs compare to the Message in a Box set? I sold mine not long ago, cause I was never happy with them.
I'm also interested in the Peter Gabriel SACDs, but I hate buying single layer in the US while Europe gets hybrids. Then I'm too cheap to buy the imports. Call it an impasse.
Anyone have the Nickel Creek SACDs?

Doesn't seem to make much sense that they are issuing this as both a CD Deluxe Edition and an SACD. Wonder why they just don't issue a hybrid.

I've only got the "Every Breath You Take" singles comp but I think the 2-ch SACD sounds superior to the box. The multi doesn't sound all that bad either.
I don't think the band (particularly Andy Summers) was particularly thrilled with the mastering on the box.

I always thought that the Police box was OK, but the SACDs are pretty great. An upgrade as far as I'm concerned.
When you say you sold yours, do you mean the box or the SACDs?

I think the Padgham stuff on the box sounds great, but the SACDs are definitely an upgrade like you said.
I'm not Patrick...but I think he was talking about the box set.

Yeah, I sold the box (for practically nothing). I've been meaning to get one or all of the SACDs, but I'd much rather get hybrids.

Well, you could pick up the hits package (which is a hybrid) to see if the SACD tracks sound good enough warrant getting SACDs (or the hybrid imports).
Where do you sell your stuff around here, BTW?

The Police box I sold on ebay. If I have something I can sell for more than $3-$4/disc, I'll go to the net with it (ebay or half, usually).
If I have stuff that I know will generate no interest on ebay, or I'm concerned about the condition, my first choice would be CD Central. Second choice would be Spy Records.
Not long ago, I took a box of about 30 CDs to CD Central and they offered me $3 for one Jerry Cantrell CD. I kept it, and took the same box to Spy. They offered me $12 in trade, IIRC, for Tripping the Live Fantastic, Satriani - SWTA, and SRV - In Step.
I haven't tried trading at CD Warehouse, but I got screwed at the same location when it had a different name.
