Anyone notice that Demonoid has been down?

Yes, it has got the entire bt worlds' panties in a twist. It's been 24 hour now. Generally when that site goes offline or is not accessible, the torrents that were started will keep on tracking as if nothing had happened. This time trackers have gone dead with the site. How strange.

I'm not concerned myself, I know they will be back! Even if they had to start from scratch -- they will be back. And I got my drives full to the brim of prime boot concert video content (still need to burn DVDs of it all) among a ton of other things I have not yet even listened to or looked at.

How does everyone else feel about this, are you in a funk, or handling it with grace and determination?

Yes, and the statement here suggests that it will take some time to sort out the problems the site has, partly because the whole thing is run by one person.

“Our human resources became limited in the last few months. All tech issues are handled just by me now and there is no one else to take the job,” the admin told us.

I can imagine that you cannot just place an ad on Craig's List for server admin. assistant. But I'd bet there is more than one person running that show. Best to imply that there is only a computer, and a monkey in charge, and that no humans are involved at all (lol).

Many speculating that the timing of the London games, and several movies coming out in theaters, and home video, and cable shows, has made this attack appear carefully planned.

I find it interesting, it's a kind of high tech war-game playing out, because I don't think that this latest incident will be the end of Demonoid, nor will it be the last ddos attack on them. Tit fer tat!

Thanks bato,

It looks like the hacker group Anonymous is getting into the fray on this one.

Anonymous targets Ukraine for Demonoid torrent tracker takedown

http://betanews.com/2012/08/10/anonymou ... -takedown/

Interesting that no arrests have been made with such a serious raid, and such a large volume site. Mexican address given of site owners... which I'd bet the farm on it being a damn parking lot once they find the physical address.

So you have one of the largest torrent sites - said to be run by only one person -- located in Mexico, with server hardware located in the Ukraine.

I have not been able to find any legit reports about a raid the of servers of Demonoid. No news of arrests either.

It appears that Torrentfreak posted some pure speculation about what happened, and why the site went down.

When a site goes down and there is a raid on servers, arrests made, then of course the news media gets the story. I am not finding any news stories of arrests, just rehash of Torrentfreak's release.

What appears to have happened is that a DDoS attack did occur, and then their ISP cancelled Demonoid's contract due to too much controversy and many legal inquiries.

This all points to (imo) a relaunch of the site from a new location at a later date. They said it would be a while to sort out the problems, and I believe finding and securing new server locations after a cleanup can take a couple of months.

There is simply too much of the story missing from legit news outlets for this to be a slam-dunk endgame. When Demonoid's head is served up on a stick, the real news will report it. And for now, this is about all the real news is reporting: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19194467

Well, some many have noticed that the tracker for many of the torrents have sprung back to life in last several days. That is right, seems the whole rig has been moved to Hong Kong, and that a relaunch of the website with index could be coming soon.

The other times Demonoid was offline for a period, the tracker came back first, then the site shortly after.

A nice Christmas present seems to be on the way. It may be time to go order a couple more of those 2tb drives again.

D2 has risen from the ashes of Demonoid! Check out: www.d2.vu

Sources are claiming that this new site was launched by Demonoid's "community members" and not by the admins. of the old site (yeah right). They claim that a backup copy of the hard drives were made the day before the old site was taken offline. And that the new D2 site is from that database.

I suspect that the new site is in fact by and from the same people as the old one. You don't simply hand out copies of your drives to others for the good of all. I would if it were me, never admit that after I dodged a bullet that I am back with a target on my forehead.

At any rate, the new site is for real, and all old accounts and passwords work like a charm. I just downloaded a few things as a test to see what would happen. A Pink Floyd song book for guitar, a Nina Simone video, and an old Country album. Everything came in exactly like it was supposed to.
