Pre-emphasis list?

Does anyone know of a list anywhere online of known CDs with pre-emphasis? Google failed me. It's a pain to confirm it by listening.

Alternatively, perhaps we could collaboratively create one. Aside from the obvious black triangle suspects (Dark Side, Abbey Road), I've discovered "Southern Accents" by Tom Petty. (FreeDB reports this version as "Southern Accents (Japanese Pressing).")

I should note that disc above was actually made in the US.

Abbey Road is the only one that I can think of that I have.

I've always been deeply suspicious that those Frank Zappa EMI CDs "have" preemphasis, but neglect to include the flag. They sound much more natural decoded.

Yeah, the Petty disc is like that. No flags show up in the CUE sheet, but since I have the actual disc, I can play it in a real player and tell that the ripped tracks are insanely goosed in the high end. I used SoX to de-emphasize them, and they sound fine (like the disc in a player) now. (I'm guessing the disc has the PE subcode bit but not the TOC flag, or something like that. :? )

I'm re-ripping my CDs lossless, which is how I tripped across this one, so if I come across more I'll note them here.

Further Googling reveals:

My preemphasis finds so far:

Genesis - Genesis *
Paul McCartney - Give my Regards To Broadstreet *
Paul McCartney - Pipes Of Peace *
Lionel Richie - Can't Slow Down
Ultravox - Vienna *
Mahler Symphonies (Inbal, Denon) *

(*Preemphasis not detected by any program except Exact Audio Copy 0.95 until prebeta 5)

There's actually useful info in the above thread.

Hee. My old Dead Kennedys "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" CD has it. It's on Cherry Red, made in Japan.

Given that it showed up on many lists, I expected my copy of the 1983 Genesis album to have it (made in Japan, no UPC, smooth-sided jewel case). But it doesn't. Go figure.

Xenu, if you're still reading this, I totally agree on the Zappa EMI discs, at least the Witch/Utopia twofer. I don't have an original, but my lossless copy sounds much better decoded (unless you really like the crash cymbal being the most prominent element of the mix). I'll check out Tinseltown when I have a chance and report back. I also have a copy of Sheik Yerbouti somewhere, but I'm going to stick with my needledrop for that one.

I am still reading this, sort of, and I'm glad you agree with me. Decoded it isn't a perfect match for what I think it should sound like (or, for that matter, the Barking Pumpkin CD), but it's close. Sheik and YAWYI become a lot more bearable as well. I simply wonder how such an oversight could have occurred, however...

Feel free to snicker uncontrollably, but I'm only the messenger. I downloaded a copy of "Hunting High And Low" by a-ha from Pedro's eons ago. I just recently realized that the thing is clearly pre-emphasized.
