Bowie "Heroes" quick question

Postby Xenu » Tue Oct 23, 2007 10:27 pm

a) Can anybody with the original Ryko/EMI disc of "Heroes" confirm that Abdulmajid is in a sort of phasey mock-stereo?

b) Can anybody with an actual Au20 of this title confirm that it's in straight mono?

Listening to the original Ryko right now -- slightly phasey, real stereo.

Right channel: piano; left channel: 'Elephant Talk'-esque guitar(?) sounds.

The beat-box seems to be spread across the stereo spectrum as well...

You're right. I was tricked...the basic track seems to be sort of mock stereo, and I stupidly assumed that the entire thing was.

The Ryko Au20 is actually stereo as well, but without the craziness. Shall I post a comparison?

The difference between the two versions is astounding.

The original Ryko sounds like a rough mix transferred from a work tape while the Au20 sounds like its been remixed from the original multi-track master...

Yeah. This is the first indication I've heard that bonus tracks were seriously researched along with the rest of the Au20 series.

BTW, what are the differences in the aluminum Ryko remix of Young Americans?
