Sundazed Mono "Surrealistic Pillow"

I just today picked up a cheap used copy of the Sundazed LP. I've just begun comparing it to mono portion of the BMG gold CD and so far the LP is by far the more listenable of the two [the CD is very fatiguing]. Question: is this issue of the mono LP the last word on this release [I don't have an original mono LP to compare it to]?

I own the gold CD and an original mono US LP. AFAIK, the last word is "lover."

Er . . . Patrick, I think what P90 *wanted* to ask was "Would you please be more specific regarding your thoughts on the original mono LP as compared to the gold CD and the Sundazed LP [if you've got it]." But then again, I could be mistaken. [smile/wink/wink/whatever].

I'm responsible for scaring off dozens of would-be members to this site. How many do you want on *your* conscience? [smile, I think]

If the pins are set up, I must bowl.

Here's what I know about this album:

The gold CD (which I own, as I mentioned) is from a nth generation copy tape. It's no sonic miracle, but the mono mix is, IMO, vastly preferable to the stereo (not as drenched in echo).

I have not seen/heard the stock stereo/mono SP remaster, but I understand that the mono tracks are identical to the ones on the gold disc. I think the packaging may have been misleading in that regard. I haven't verified any of this personally, it's just what I remember reading.

The best version is purportedly the original mono US LP. At least it was before the Sundazed was out. I finally got a VG+ original off ebay a couple of years ago. Paid around $12, IIRC.

Steve divulged that the mono master tape is gone, as are the multis. I don't know what Sundazed used, and I don't own their version.

I don't know what an original mono UK press sounds like, but the tracklisting in different.

Lastly, the last word on the LP is "lover." At least on the US pressing.

Yeah, but apparently Bob Irwin found both the mono master *and* the multis.

Where did he find them? No idea. I just recall reading that somebody talked to him at a show of some sort, where he said he had found both.

Did you ever A/B your LP with the mono tracks on the gold CD?

No, but I have a feeling the LP is better. The gold CD is nothing great.

Well, I bought a new copy of the Sundazed LP today.

I'm going to listen to it tonight.

I don't have any other copies of the mono to listen to, but it will be cool to hear it
in mono for the first time.
