That was awesome. Wow, footage of Jamerson in action. This should be on DVD.

Wow, very interesting. Though I think it's mentioned just as a thought, does a "See Emily Play" clip with Syd exist?

Nope. They did it on Top Of The Pops 3 times in July '67 but nearly all TOTP's are long gone.

A real shame.

Yeah, even the Beatles TOTP is MIA. There is loads of missing Syd era PF footage. They were on TV quite a bit in '67. Lots of missing live footage from that era as well..

It actually is. The performance that is, not the entire Save The Children movie. It's on a new Marvin compilation DVD that came out 2 or 3 months ago. The cool thing is that, rather than just use the original crappy mono film track audio, they went back and mixed the Chicago-Save The Children performance from Motown's master tapes of the concert. The only snippet I'd ever seen previously was on the Showtime Marvin documentary from 1986.

Personally, I think it sounds really good. Whoever engineered the original tracks knew what the hell they were doing. One would hope that they recorded all of the material from the PUSH/Jesse Jackson concerts (e.g. The Temptations doing Papa Was A Rolling Stone) and maybe release a deluxe CD package at some point.

This is Marvin at his creative and performing peak, IMO. It's tragic to see/hear the later day concerts, compared to this.

Prompted by a Monkees conversation, someone watched this with the volume blasting yesterday. I'm not very familiar with the song, but: those can't possibly be the real drums, right? Is this some sort of 80s remix?

Yes, there was an 80's remix. The 1986 single was apparently the one with the re-recorded drums. DJ's used to play this modernized version in the clubs around that time. That I do remember.

I'm sure one of the Monkee scholars here or over on "the other board" could verify where else it might have been released. From a quick Google search I just did, the re-recorded drums version was also available on an Arista CD sampler, and the *second vinyl* press (but not the first) of the That Was Then, This Is Now collection...as well as the noted '86 single.

More Keith Moon stuff:

Keith, Old Grey Whistle Test, for "Two Sides Of The Moon", also discusses living in LA, etc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6vIwQ54Fvs

Keith gives a guided tour of Shepperton Studions/Who Group. "Who Are You" gets a blink mention at the end of the clip.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6szp_UhRMEQ

His "dear boy" posh accent affectation still kills me, but he pulls it off (except for when he has a ciggy in his mouth) because he is so articulate and softly spoken with whatever topic is in hand.

The Keith/Steve Martin skit in full. Well worth it. "You feeling a little better now Keith?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2RhXw7Nd24

You know that black & white shot of Keith pouring vodka over someone (Gary McDonald as "Norman Gunston" it would seem) during the montage on The Kids Are Alright? Here's some (very low res) footage, from Charlton Football ground 1976, in two very short parts. It appears that a segment with JAE, originally appearing between these two segments, has been omitted. Worth watching once, as a contrast to the above clips:

"Millions of dollars, Mr Lofton."
