Rare 1966 Who footage from a Canadian TV show called Take 30. It's poor quality but still fascinating. Odd to see the '66 model Who playing CC Rider..

These are Prince clips I recorded to VHS back in '91 , when he was on the Arsenio Hall show with his "New Power Generation' band. I must say, YoutUBe's compression schemes kinda suck, even using hteir recommended settings, because the original .avi files I made look much better.

Can anyone make sense of YouTube's search function? It doesn't bring any of these up when I search for them with obvious terms (like 'Daddy Pop'), and it tends to be really hit or miss generally.

It's not only youtube's compression scheme that looks worse than the original avi. It's the avi conversion to flash file before it even gets to youtube that is gonna look a bit rough.

But I suspect youtube is doing another resample. They6 say that if you go to mp4 file before upload they do not have to reconvert, but I suspect they do reconvert the larger ones. As I uploaded the largest file size they accept, and when it appeared, it had lost something more than the avi to flash.

Your Prince videos look stunning compared to how things can end up looking even with the best source material.

Here is Paul Weller I uploaded, this is a tough one to encode because it has tons of moving backgrounds and foregrounds, and tons of shadings in the light. Looks ok, I expected a bit better.

I knew someone who actually owned the Freedom Rock CDs. What a bizarre artifact.

Wow, "Friends". Great song, but...odd choice.

Not that just about all of those choices aren't odd.

I had a friend who bought them also. I borrowed them, and the sound quality was pretty bad for most of the tracks.

Anybody else remember the "son of Freedom Rock" commercial (or perhaps it came first) that featured a similar collection with a mock-hippie dancing around in a mock-radio studio? I can't remember what that collection was called - though I do remember that one of the songs was Soul Deep by the Box Tops.

Fun Rock. This one used to play so much...I still remember it by heart.

Oh shit...the best one yet! My grandparents actually bought this. Though, the original (first) commercial he did was still the funniest (Indian Love Call anyone?). Someone please find me that one or the Boxcar Willie one next!

Like I said, the first commercial he did was even funnier - a true classic. Yodelin' his ass off to stuff like the Indian Love Call.

so sorry to see that they have yanked your clips down due to copyright infringement.

My Warren Zevon video is still up and getting some very nice comments. Seems people do miss him. They only miss you when yer gone really.

But really, that band is hot! No one commented in my other post with the Ventures in it. I was pretty hurt, but I've pulled myself together now.

Here it is again in case you missed it the first time.

Oh ick.

Quick explanation: Yellow Magic Orchestra start out as sort of a lighter, Japanese version of Kraftwerk, and quickly become popstars, touring the world, etc. At some point, though, they decide they want ARTISTIC RESPECTABILITY...and actually make two dense, fantastic albums that are totally deserving of such respect. They're still a bit goofy, but intriguingly goofy. Here, for example, is the video for "Taiso," the most commercial song off of "Technodelic:"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dbvbb_yCKUI

and here's what their live act looked like approximately around that time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Qk9ljcrSzk

Apparently, though, after Technodelic the band decided that it...well, wanted to be famous and popular again. So they commercialized their sound. Again. But this time it was the EIGHTIES, so this time things would be Not Good. Here, for example, is one of the first videos from immediately into this commercialization period, which takes the same "Taiso" concept but boybandifies it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XstzCdYeAA

And here is the WORST THING EVER.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXoGvK12-50

And you thought Genesis fell from grace....I'm sure Ryuichi Sakamoto (who has since gone on to Serious Artisthood) would rather this never be spoken of again.
