As it turns out, the original Atlantic CD was mastered by Barry Diament from the original master tape. See here.

I wonder how long it takes until Luke tries to bust the Diament-myth. But for the moment, bd is "sexy".

Diament's posts have been admirably reasonable about remasterings, and well-informed about digital audio (as one would expect from someone who has been in the game as long as he has). But it's still too rare a thing in that place.
