Wings Greatest (US Blackface vs. Japan Black Traingle)

Postby JWB » Wed Nov 23, 2005 9:28 am

I finally got both of these and I am amazed at how different they are. The blackface sounds very flat and dull and muffled compared to the black traingle, maybe even NR'd. The black traingle sounds way too bright and hissy compared to the blackface, but it sounds much clearer of course.

The blackface has the full fadeouts and lets the hiss run out at the end. The black triangle has a sloppy and abrupt fade at the end of every track. There's two or three seconds extra on the blackface.

I guess I'm not really that happy with either of them.

Yeah, the blackface is Japan-made, but it's totally different than the triangle.

I'm probably stating the obvious, but the "triangle" is the holy "grial" pressing, right?

Does the black triangle have preemphasis?

Does it have TO in the matrix?

No pre-emphasis and no TO in the matrix.

I have both as well and I do prefer the Triangle but the hiss is a bit overbearing on some tracks. Abbey Road studios should fix 'er up
