So I have what purports to be the mono "Ogden's Nut" on a CD some SH forum member made for me (I wish I could remember who it was!). I honestly can't tell whether it's a fold-down...does anybody know the status of this disc? I can post a few song-samples if people want to pick it apart.
Like the mono "Spirit" I have, it's so good (and was acquired so easily) that I'm almost innately suspicious of it.

I've been lusting after that one for a while. Is it a needle drop from the UK LP?
I have the UK stereo and it's a nicer-sounding version than any other I've heard.

I think it's a needle-drop from the UK LP. That said, I wasn't even aware that the UK mono LP existed, and am unsure of its status as a "true mono" mix. The tape situation regarding that album is so bizarre...
For example, some things point to it being a unique mix, while some seem to imply a fold-down. There's the fact that most of it sounds like a fold-down, for one, with overly prominent vocals...I knocked-down the stereo CD, and it more or less matched. Additionally, I checked the beginning of "Rolling Over," as the instrumentation at the beginning gets really cluttered in a knocked-down mono copy...the "mono LP" version doesn't separate these out at all.
And yet the vocals at the end of "Mad John" are clearly lower on the mono copy. Huh?
I just don't know. With this and the Spirit LP, I just don't know the source anymore. I wish I could find who ripped these!
