Bonus tracks on "A Quick One" & "Who Are

Postby MK » Wed May 25, 2005 12:24 pm

I've got the box set, "Who's Missing," and the MFSL of "Who Are You." I'm hoping to get the mono mix of "A Quick One."

If I have all that, are the remaining bonus tracks on "A Quick One" and "Who Are You" worth having?

"Who Are You" seems to have alternates (rough or alternate mixes, but pretty much the same performance) and demos. "A Quick One"'s got some odd ones, mostly covers. Anything that good?

Empty Glass is one of my favorite bonus tracks, FWIW. The other tracks aren't all that interesting, IMO.

Most of the AQO bonus tracks are b-sides and EP tracks available elsewhere. The acoustic Happy Jack is...acoustic. Man With The Money is pretty good, and My Generation/Land Of Hope And Glory is nice enough...

I'll second Luke on most of that. "No Road Romance" on WAY is worth a listen, and I really like "Empty Glass" (which I think is basically a Pete demo with Entwistle and Moon overdubs). The rest... shrug. I guess it's nice to have a version of "Who Are You" with alternate lyrics in one verse, but it's not worth paying money for.

Yeah, I forgot about No Road Romance. That's decent.

I really love the acoustic Happy Jack. I actually (SHOCK! HORROR!) like it better than the electric version.

As for the other tracks...ehh. I'm not a big fan of the Ready Steady Who! EP (I like the stereo "Disguises," though...that's on the boxed-set). Man with the Money is OK.

I really like the earlier version of Love Is Coming Down on the remaster. More than the final version. Actually, Pete's solo demo is also great (found on bootleg). Everybody else seems to hate this song...

I like the song. I guess I never paid much attention to the bonus track version. What's different?

At least, the piano and the lead vocal are different performances.
