Robert Fripp mocked by his fans

The most recent King Crimson Fan e-mail newsletter includes the following entry:

SUBJECT: Tour '08
"A demand to fetishize and imprison the event within the constraints of photography, autography and recording."

Flash forward: KC tour 2008 (the great move sideways). "Audients" will be screened for cameras, cell phones, recording devices, cigarettes, and bright clothing. Following a disturbing incident of "boobyism" at a pub on July 28, 2006 (as detailed in a now legendary diary entry) KC will also no longer perform in front of Protestants or any audients born in Wales.

Members of the recently formed KCommunion of the KCrimson KCing KClub wearing their official glare-free deluxe badges will be offered an opportunity to purchase the deluxe "Tourbox 08" that includes a full 7 minutes of studio chatter, a previously unreleased 15 second ending of "Red," and a 3 X 5 photo of Adrian Belew looking at a genuine Fripp signature (written voluntarily, it must be added!).

All this housed in an exclusive jewel KCase for a mere $74.00. The KCrowd goes wild! (but in a controlled & approved fashion.) "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"

99.9% of the people on this list would eagerly accept the above scenario."

Damn...this guy should contribute to the Snakepit!

That's mighty funny and dead on accurate, and I'm a KC (Fripp) fan. Not the first person in the world who thinks Fripp is kind of a jerk, that's for sure.

the last time I saw Crimson live was the night after the 2000 Presidential election (got pretty drunk that night...) at the 9:30 Club in D.C. During a quiet moment in one of their songs, one of the bartenders had the audacity to throw away a bottle. There was an audible gasp in the audience as the glass shattered. Belew looked over at the bar, but fortnuately Fripp kept playing.

I've never been to a rock concert where people are on pins and needles - afraid to do something to disturb the "artist."

Belew seems like an amiable enough guy, at least. And the guys in CGT will come out and mingle with the audience and sign autographs.

As does Tony Levin, who signs autographs and (at least when I saw his band in 2002) patiently answers questions about Peter Gabriel ("I don't know when the album's coming out") and Robert Fripp ("He's just really shy").

I would suggest that anybody who's sung "Jones Crusher" voluntarily on more than one occasion probably has to be "amiable" at the very least. WE HAVE ZE DIRT ON HIM.

Last time I saw Crimson, my row was raided for cameras and three guys got thrown out, but I don't think anyone was doing anything. I was waiting for them to tell me something so I can start some smack. Absolutely ridiculous.

But, musically, ain't no one like Fripp.

What about camera phones?
