I'm thinking about shelling out for this. Anyone here have it? How is the radio play? Anyone like the demo of Let's See Action better than the Who version?

Yeah, I've got it.

I haven't it since it came out (2000) and *still* haven't listened to the play. But I plan to. Some time.

Have you heard Who Came First? Same take of Let's See Action, different mix (not taht different). I like it. Is it better than the Who's version? Hard to say.

That's about right.

I listened to the play once. It's worth a listen, but it's typical Townshend drama -- overwrought and didactic. (The only long-form story he ever "wrote" that transcended this was Quadrophenia, IMHO.) There's not much music in the play, funnily enough -- it's not a "musical" at all. I wouldn't buy the box for it, but it's an interesting bonus if you're buying the box for the demos.

It's all packaged quite exquisitely, and the booklet is fantastic.

Same here. Truth be told, I only wanted it for the 2 discs of demos, which are fascinating.

I tried to listen to the play once, but didn't get through it all. I too intend to try again at some point, but so far it hasn't happened ...

I think three listens for me. There's nothing really wrong with it, it's just not that great. It might have been more compelling as a movie...too bad that didn't happen.

Finally picked this up. Has anyone compared the Mary and BBE demos on Scoop to the Lifehouse box?

Bargain - I've never heard much difference in sound from Scoop (the Atlantic CD), which is good. The box has a cold ending.

BBE - Noise reduction on the box. Scoop sounds better.

Mary - I want to say Scoop sounds a bit better, but the whole middle is cut out, plus the end fades into the next track.

Very nice package, very interesting music, but the demos are Astley-mastered and mired in noise reduction. Too bad.

Yeah, some are pretty bad. But the sources are so much better than the bootleg versions. A few years ago I was actually talking with the guy who cut the original acetates, but he wasn't able to find his copies. He also cut the unreleased EP with Water, Don't Know Myself, etc.

Although the mastering on the Avatar box is quite a bit worse than even the Lifehouse box.
