Japanese Bee Gees reissues

Postby Xenu » Wed Feb 16, 2005 7:14 pm

This'll get me raked over the coals, but...

So Anton at sh.tv claims that the new, 2004 Japanese Bee Gees reissues use different masters than the current, stock UK/US CDs.

I'm not a big Bee Gees fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I do enjoy the pre-Odessa albums, most of which sound OK (if not spectacular) in their current incarnations.

My question: is there actually any improvement in these Japanese issues? Anybody know? Traditionally, I doubt claims of improved mastering on Japanese reissues (especially when put as uncritically as in the thread in question), but my curiosity's piqued.

They usually have that "warmth sucked out of it" sound that usually goes for remastering on those oldie groups.
