What do you think these'll go for? $33? $40? I know that I've definitely reached the point where I have Enough Who Records (at least since I landed the Phases set).

Any takers?

Of course, no word if they will be the remixes or not.

I'm guessing they'll be original mixes -- AFAIK, even Universal hasn't reissued the remixes in this century. (Unless they put some on Then And Now... but I thought those pretty much tracked the Ultimate Collection stuff, which was original mixes.)

Well, there's Quick One stereo, but that wasn't what I'd call a reissue, more like a stealth operation.

I find it somewhat amusing that back in the early days of SH.tv the word was there was *no way* the Who would ever allow the original mix of Who's Next to be used again (for an audiophile reissue), since they were now set on the remix.

Then the DE came out.

It almost seems like they're slowly backing away from the remixes. I have a feeling that we'll see the original mixes reissued soon.

They probably meant to do that via SACD, since Pete said he was furiously remixing the whole catalog into 5.1 a year or so ago, but now that SACD appears dead who knows what the plans are. (We should have had or at least heard something about that 5.1 Quad by now if that plan was still a going concern.)

I interested in seeing if the upcoming Quad Deluxe Edition (assuming it's still in the works) will use the original mixes...

It's a good deal for them.
I'd do it.
There are worse things to work on than Live At Leeds.
$33 is my guess.

Sure, I'll bet Classic's going to clean up with these. It'll make up for losing the Dylan catalog project a couple years ago.

It took a total of 5 posts on this subject over at ShTv before:

If they release the mono mix of The Who Sell Out, I'll be the first one in line.

Hmmmm, good point. I'd fork over the bucks for that. As far as the rest:

My Gen: Eh, I'm not a big enough fan of that album to buy yet another version.

Quick One: The German LP is good enough for me.

Tommy: I'm drowning in good versions of Tommy.

Live At Leeds: This could be interesting, depending on the version. A nicely-mastered 4-LP box of the DE would be expensive as hell, but potentially worth it if it sounded good (that is, like something other than the inside of a metal garbage can). Anything else, though, is adequately represented already.

Who's Next: See Tommy.

Quadrophenia: See Tommy.

Odds & Sods: I've got a good US pressing of this. Still, a 2-LP version of the '99 edition, with all the screw-ups fixed, might be worthwhile. That seems unlikely, though.

Who By Numbers: The German LP works for me. The original CD ain't terrible, and the remix is OK both in terms of sound and mix.

Who Are You: The MoFi CD is pretty good. The remix is too different (but sounds good).

Face Dances: I've got the MoFi LP, and it's all I need.

It's Hard: Perversely enough, I might bite on this if it's a great-sounding representation of the original mix. I actually like this record. I've got dollar-bin copies of both the US WB vinyl and the UK Polydor, and neither are particularly good. The original-mix CD sounds wretched. The remix sounds OK, but I hate the mix changes.

It depends on my mood and where I'm listening. Under some circumstances, the SH CD (and just about every other version, for that matter) sounds thin and pinched next to, say, Who Are You. On the other hand, the Decca LP sounds really muddy depending on when/where/how I'm listening. Both have their quirks, and neither is perfect.

The original MCA CD sounds fine to me. The only thing I'd be interested in is a *good* stereo remix.

Quick One: The German LP is good enough for me.

Yeah...I'd still like to have that on CD, but I'm not sure there's any point to another LP issue.

Who's Next: See Tommy.

I think something between the SH CD and the Decca vinyl would be ideal, but the SH CD is good enough, I think.

Quadrophenia: See Tommy.

I've heard that various vinyl versions of the original mix are better than any CD versions, so a proper CD reissue would be nice, but a vinyl reissue doesn't really help then, does it?

I like the By Numbers remix, and the Quadrophenia original mix, but for most of the other stuff, it's on a track by track basis.

Tommy - The remixes of Underture and Go To The Mirror are huge improvements, but I prefer the original Pinball Wizard.

Who's Next - The remix of My Wife works, the remix of Behind Blue Eyes does not. IMO the remix of Won't Get Fooled Again (from the best of) is masterful, as they cleaned up the sound while remaining very faithful to the original mix.

Who Are You - I like the remix for everything but New Song, Sister Disco, and the title track. The remix of Trick Of The Light, in particular, is far better than the original mix.

It's Hard - Haven't compared in a while, but I remember hating the remix of Cry If You Want because of the way they changed the intro.

I very much like the My Generation SACD...but I've never had any other version of this album to compare. What's the consensus on this one?
