Since we're unable to link over there, here's the full text. (It's a sticky post in the Music section -- can't miss it.)
Good morning.
I spoke with Marshall Blonstein of Audio Fidelity this morning and with Sam Passamano of S&P Records as well.
Audio Fidelity and S&P Records are jointly going to be reviving the old DCC Compact Classics 24 Karat Gold series due to popular demand from collectors and audiophiles alike. As you might know, Marshall was President of DCC Compact Classics and Sam was the senior VP of marketing.
Both labels are going to be issuing some great titles but in cooperation with each other. Both companies have many amazing titles lined up for us, trust me on this!
I will be mastering all of the titles for both labels of course and my plate will be very full over the next few years.
Yes, Acoustic Sounds jumped the gun on announcing this but now that they have I have permission to answer your questions.
First, let me mention a few things:
Kevin and I will be using our new proprietary A/D converter at AcousTech Mastering and we think you'll really love the sound of the discs.
These 24 Karat Gold titles are very expensive to license (that part hasn't changed) and the major labels take a long time to clear the titles that we want; we just have to all be patient.
Yes, we have requested the usual "hard to get" titles; no need to remind us of the more obvious ones!
The first three Audio Fidelity Gold CD titles are:
BAD COMPANY/Self Titled
FACES/A Nod Is As Good As A Wink... (To A Blind Horse)
DOOBIE BROTHERS/Minute By Minute
I will be using the actual British master mixes for the first two albums. Forum Friend Bill Inglot is involved in this process so rest assured we will get the real deal or the albums won't be released. Since it is taking longer than expected to retrieve the tapes, THE RELEASE DATES MENTIONED BY ACOUSTIC SOUNDS ARE UNREALISTIC AND NOTHING WILL BE RELEASED UNTIL 2005. Probably the beginning of the year so it won't be much longer but we need the extra time to get things right.
Would I have liked to see these titles on SACD? Sure, and I would have liked to ride to the moon as well. The majors would not let this happen.
I think when you hear these new 24 Karat Gold CD's you will be happy campers!
So, if you have questions and comments of any kind please use this thread to ask.
