I just realized the other day that I want a good Spinners comp. Is the '91 Rhino/Atlantic two-disc thing the best one?

I hear their second album kicks butt.

Great singles artists, they were actually fairly consistent Lp artists, too. Most of their albums were pretty solid. Nothing 'epochal' along the lines of, say, "What's Going On," but all good.
Having said that, the two-CD Atlantic set is the best way to go. All tracks are full-length versions (many were edited for singles, and when I say edited, they were re-dubbed in order to make edited 45 masters, too), and they were mastered very well by Innocenzi, who does pretty flat transfers. No NoNoise/CEDAR/etc., no compression, no bad EQ, very little EQ if any at all, good playback system, and usually the absolute first generation masters.
There's also the budget "Very Best of the Spinners," 16 tracks, released in 1993 or 1994 by Rhino, mastered by Inglot and Hersch. They use all the single masters, meaning all the edited versions from those dubbed singles masters. This is also one of those high-end boosted discs, too. It sounds brighter and much harder than "One Of A Kind Love Affair: An Anthology." If you want a copy of the edited single versions, and also their later discofied hit cover of "Cupid," then "The Very Best of the Spinners" may be your best bet on CD.

Or you can be insane like me and buy everything the band has ever released on CD. Your way's probably cheaper...

Sounds like the two-disc set is the way to go. Thanks, all.
How much I like that will determine if I go insane and buy everything...

Would that be "Mighty Love" (the second Atlantic album, as far as I can tell) or one of the 60s Motown albums?
The Atlantic 2-CD set was nowhere to be found locally, so I am now waiting several days for Amazon to ship it the 10 miles from their warehouse to my home. (I keep lobbying for a drive-thru window, but they're not interested...)
